[Mk2] [Turbo] whitish smoke at idle

after the car warms up it starts to smoke whitish alot especially after driving hard then stopping at a stop light or somthing. but not wen cold any ideas its a 91 turbo

Either turbo seals or valve stem seals mate , i would of said turbo tho .

White smoke normally indictes moisture in the gases, i.e. head gasket issues, doesn't it?

nah agree with Leeroy white smoke is normally an indication of HG failure especially when the engine is warm.

To the OP have you checked your coolant levels?

yeah but steam could be mistaken for white smoke, if it was turbo or burning oil wouldn't it be darker colour, possibly blueish smoke?

it smells more like oil its super thick and the heat is perfect

when warm on idle bellows white smoke,exactly the same happened on a mates

remember the old mans on mine john, flooded the street with white smoke if you left it more than 5 mins idling

if it were headgasket your temperature gauge would more than likely be erratic,
if its steady,then,turbo oil seals.

heat goes right to the mid range then stays there nt eratic wat so ever i have no cat after market turbo with custom 3inch exhaust . i was just wondering if its the oil seals how come it doesnt smoke in boost or little enough so that i cant see it while driving? also some one said it might be my ring lands goin or gone? wats the ussual compression numbers and leak down test numbers? i have a rev 1 engine (91 turbo) stock i put down 291 whp proffessoinally tuned it should take that right?

Does it smoke when driven hard?

I had a race Mini that would smoke when left idling, but seemed to be ok when driven hard. Turned out to be valve stem oil seals. Oil would pool onto the tops of the pistons on idle, and produce smoke, but under heavy load, it would seem ok.

Worth considering.

ok imm gonan check the compression first thing tomorow then check the oil in the charge pipes
