I re-fitted my rear quarter windows after the respray using 3M Windscreen Sealer (08509), but I'm getting water coming in the rear corner vents, and also dripping down from the top mounting lug point.
I'm not sure if I've not put enough sealant in, or if the stuff I've used isn't right for the job, as it doesn't seem to be that sticky like the old stuff..
What have others used? I want a 'non-setting' sealer like the original sticky stuff, as 'proper' windscreen sealent sets solid and you'd never get the quarter panels out again if you needed to....
Thanks,
Jon
Heya.
Fairly sure when mine came out to be sprayed silver they were just pushed back in...(bodyshop did it though so not positive but seem to remember). I've no probs to report.

The sealant between the glass and body would have needed to be removed and re-applied, it's a really nasty sticky gunk that sticks your fingers together when you try to remove it. Took me about 4 hours to get it off the glass and bodywork!
Anyone?? There must be loads of cars on here that have had these rear quarter windows removed and re-fitted?
Asked at Toyota and they said they use "Bodyline Windscreen Sealer", which I can't find anywhere and Toyota didn't have any.
Maybe I'll take them out again, remove all the sealant, then drive up to Autoglass and ask they to re-fit them for me.....
I did 8 yrs as an Automotive Glazer and used to do many of these whilst they were having back wings fitted in bodyshops.(Funny how many hit the wall backwards but hey thats another thread).
Anyways, the sticky black stuff is removed, then the glass and body cleaned up with a degreaser, such as panel wipe, mild thinners etc.
They're then bonded in using a polyeruthane adhesive (AKA windscreen bond) also PU adhesive
This is how i recently did mine after a respray.
The cause of your water ingress will be the adhesive won't of met up right with the body / glass or there is a gap in it.
Best way to cure is to do whats known as a back fill.
1-strip the trims of the inside.
2-whilst inside have a mate spray car with hose pipe.
3-smear windscreen bond over where the water is comin though (you'll need to dry this 1st, air line is the best way.
Hope this helps

Thanks for the info
I bit the bullet yesterday and removed the rear quarter windows again, they came out far too easily this time and I could see daylight between some joins before removing them which would account for the leaks!
The gaps on the rear quarter glass are pretty variable, some bits are very close to the body, others are ~10mm from the body.
The sealent I'd used doesn't have the same adhesive properties as the original sticky stuff, but rather than screw it up myself again, I'm taking the car to my local Autoglass depot (Thursday 9am) with the glass removed/cleaned up, and getting them to re-fit them for me using their sealant.
I'll take a note of what they use....
Thanks,
Jon
Hi i think the sealant is a Unipart product from their Bodyline range and its just called Windscreen Sealant. its a non-hardening sealant, for fixing leaks in windscreens,
comes in a cartridge like this stuff http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... &rd=1&rd=1
Woohoo. Autoglass guys re-installed them thins morning. They use the same stuff they use for the front windscreen, not dissimilar to the product linked on eBay, except they use a funky electric dispenser which makes a superb V shaped bead. Means it'll probably never come out again (without major effort), but hopefully I'll have no need to.
Sorted, not leaking, happy now
Thanks,
Jon
