MPG???

Post by snarf »

Just returned from a weekend away up in Blackpool and took my newly aquired MR2 :D.
I did about a 350 mile all round trip of mainly motorway driving and cruising about 80 ish most of it. Reckon it cost me about £50 in fuel.
I can't be ar$ed to calculate it but is this about right for a N/A 2er?

Assuming it was full to the brim when you filled up, then that'll be around 28mpg if you completely emptied the tank doing 350 miles. Or around 39mpg if you went until the fuel light came on (15 litres remaining).

Toyota claim a combined figure of 31mpg (which is pretty much what I get). 35mpg at a constant 75mph or 45mpg at a constant 55mph.

£50 is a bit steep for a tank full of petrol, it's only a 55 litre tank  - So I assume it wasn't done on one tank of fuel? So assuming 85p a litre then that's 58 litres for your £50 - that works out to be around 27mpg :(

No... i put £35 worth in to just about fill it up on departure and then another £20 when it was down to about a quarter left on the way back and reckon i've used about £10-15 worth of that.
Basically i quess i used in total just over a tankfull.

So my reckoning of 58 litres was close, so that's 27mpg - not great, but not that terrible by any means either.

I tend to average 30-31mpg, seems to make no difference whether I drive at 60 or 90 on the motorway, which is only a third of my journey to work - the rest is 'school run 5mph crawl' :-k

So around 30 mpg is pretty normal then? #-o

i'll get a better picture i suppose with more use over a period of time.

Cheers for the input :)
