nope, just has an extra 2 studs in the centre, thats why rev1 and 2 manifolds are interchangeable.

learn something new every day!

oh but arent the two pipes going into the down pipe a different size as well?

not sure what 2 pipes you mean.

Re: [Mk2] [NA] Mani & exhaust have arrived, need fitting advice (plus pic inside!)
I think the two pipes he's refering to is the stock mid pipes Ie where it goes from 4-2-1.

anyhoo, a wee update!

I had a damn good crack at it last night, but squandered a massive amount of time extracting rusted in heat shield bolts.
I contemplated cracking them off with a chisel or grinding them off, but thought better of a half baked shoddy job incase I needed to refit as stock.

When I got under the car, I was met by them same, stock 1993 fasteners that havent faired well through 14 years of use lol!!!

It became clear at this point that I would need to order in stock replacements for all these bolts, and that I wouldnt be able to swap these over in time to get the car off to work this morning.

So.

I finish today at 1
(its a public holiday over here in Norn Iron aka northern Ireland) and ive popped across the road to teh engineering company opposite, and acquired a huge variety of nuts and bolts!

First im gunna try and replace the stock backbox, and see how I go, at least with lots of fresh fasteners to work with ill be able to strip it all off again easily when I can get access to my mates 4 poster ramps.

heres a few pics of the manifold before and after wrapping.
Ive wrapped a few manis in my time before but this one was a total b***h.
the runners are so close that only dust can pass between them.
I had to cut a lot of wrap into pieces to fit to shape, then lash them down with a wrap around adjoining runners.
total wrap used: 25 foot of 2" wrap, and 15 foot of 1" wrap!!!!!!

What advantages are there going from a 4-2-1 mani to a stainless 4-1 that can potentially crack? Not having a dig, just wondering what the perceived benefits are?
Re: [Mk2] [NA] Mani & exhaust have arrived, need fitting advice (plus pic inside!)
ps.
The particular wrap I used was sourced on ebay.
It was unbranded and thus Id strongly recommend any other buyers to ensure you take some safety measures.

The glass fibre content was massive, and of a very ffine dusty nature.
My skin is still itching today and I wore a boiler suit while wrapping.
the last material I used was a more clothy wrap.
I wore a mask, but the particle protection was not fine enough, and im still blowing blue dust out my nose!!!!

not recommended! be very careful!

the perceived benifits are getting rid of the currently warped stock manifold that is leaking mildly!

One is better than the other, however, I can't remember if its 4-2-1 or 4-1

4-2-1 is better for torque than the 4-1

We had the same manifold on our rev 1 was told over in the U.S.
not to wrap it cos it put more pressure on the welds
