Woman writing a text while driving!!

Right, check this out.

Driving down my local 30 zone, woman pulls slowly out of a junction in front of me. So I brake and think wtf.

Then, SHE STOPS diagonally across the road and finishes texting on her phone, so I am parked on the road and she is blocking my way. I beep at her and mouth WTF, she doen't look at me but waves and laughs

The law does not extend to hands-free use of equipment. Similarly, users will not be prosecuted if the phone is held in a cradle. Drivers should exercise caution while using a hands-free kit as it's still a distraction from driving.

Driving with the phone balanced between shoulder and ear doesn't count as hands-free !!!!

Texting while driving is not permitted under the new legislation

You cannot answer incoming calls while driving. If the phone rings while the car is moving, then the driver must stop at the side of the road before answering.

The ban also applies to driving while stopped at traffic lights or in a traffic jam. While the car is under the control of a driver, then that driver cannot use a mobile phone. An exception is made in lengthy tailbacks when the engine is turned off.

Calls to 999 (or 112) in genuine emergencies are permitted where it would be unsafe or impractical to stop.

Using the phone there while driving is illegal too, but its something that the police just dont enforce
They think they have far better things to be doing with their time that stopping people on the phone.

How is it even different to talking to a passenger - the only difference is that they're not in the car with you...

Well, yes, in a way I guess thats true - but I'd say that them getting a radio call to respond to a serious RTA or something else where peoples lives could be in danger, is more important than somebody texting you to find out where you are going tonight.

Aye, but I mean when you're using a hands-free kit so that both hands are still available to control the car. The Gov will pass legislation soon to ban head units from cars soon because it will distract drivers when they need to change radio station or CDs - surely it's no different to glancing at your ringing phone and pressing one button to pick the call up? It's not like you're holding the phone or anything

Worse than that it will soon be illegal to have passengers in the car, as you might talk to them, and that could distract you.

1st then to be made illegal before that, is that changing the radio station as you have to take 1 hand off the wheel, and glance at the station.

THEN!

Changing gear will be illegal, as you need to take one hand off the wheel, and are not concentrating on the road ahead.

Well they do say that 1/3 of accidents are caused by drunk drivers.
Which means that 2/3 of accidents are caused by sober drivers.

Surely this means its safer to drive drunk?

Highly highy dangerous!

Girl from my old college was texting away driving down the dual carriageway. Not looking at the road and dint notice the Sainsburys truck stopped in front. Ploughed straight into the back of it in her little mini, ripped the roof clean off along with her head.
