mileage ok? plus... quite a day for my car!

Post by russthedude »

drove up to Leeds on Fri night, and got 34.9 MPG. Is that good or bad? Cruised at an average speed of 80 on motorway, at an altitude of approx 7 inches off the ground.

Also, I lent it to my mate today in exchange for his escort so I ocud take my daughter out for the day with my girlfriend, and in 3 hours he ran someone over, pi$$ed someone off so they threw coins at it, and left it parked with handbrake not fully on only to find it on the other side of the cra park when he came out the garden centre. it only stopped when the back wheels hit a kerb head on, inches away from another car! needless to say, he's nenever ever having it again!!!

You do know that the driving other car extension of your insurance only covers third party, don't you?
Personally, I wouldn't risk lending or borrowing a friends car (without being a named driver on fully comp) as I can't see the friendship lasting after a large repair bill. Plus I bet it's quite difficult to get a 'mate' to take the points he's racked up under your name. :?

I had about 38 mpg when i drove to norwich and back a few weeks ago. I was well happy lol

Russ...You have just resprayed your car, spent all that time on it, even though he is your friend, and you needed a bigger car...why did you swap them for a day? Could have had a hired car. Imagine if that'd gone into the front of the car in the car park...

well, he's been my best friend for years, and I (wrongly) assumed he'd show a bit more respect for it than he obviously did. Especially as he knows how much work I've spent on it, and that I needed it in one piece to drive back to Bournemouth Sunday night. If he'd done any damage he would have stumped up. I've suggested that he buys one for himself.

Still, no harm done. on the bright side, 750 miles without a hitch

I'd say your MPG figures are pretty good. I don't see anything above 25mpg on any of our MK1's

I got 39mpg on the run up to York for TOTB2005. Best I'd ever had.

I have re-calculated We normally see around 30mpg on an average tank which sees a mix of motorway and city driving.
If it's town driving only (more often than none) it's about 25mpg.

You don't wanna know what we get on track
Usually between 9 and 12 MPG

got 40.6 mpg over roughly 1200 miles a couple of weekends ago.

That was driving from Fife to nottingham, around nottingham, then down to the M25 and through the Jams to Guildford, then The parking 'mire' at goodwood, guildford again, then up to Birmingham (Westfield kit car factory tour+test drive!) and up back up to Glasgow (with me and my lead foot keeping the cruising speed up as I wanted to get home for my dinner!).

Fair enough the MPG was much lower the next day on a 160-mile blast up to Pitlochry and round the fun roads up there!

Once again the mk1 impresses me - done over 1500 miles in a week (edinburgh to dundee a few times aswell as goodwood and pitlochry run!) and she's been utterly faultless.

I would severely bollock any of my mates if they treated my car like that - they know how important it is to me and should respect that! My mate is always asking me for a go, and he's insured and financially comfortable enough to cover any repair costs, but the way he treats his car....answer is always HELL NO!

well, after raping my car last weekend, he went and got his own on saturday. he got a light blue MK1b, 185k on clock and pretty solid all round. arches have been patched up and look ok, not sure how long they'll last for thuogh, but rest of the car is sound, even has original tool kit, t-bar bags and shades etc. £700 he paid for it, and its got mk1a wheels which have been refurbed to a very high standard! so, next time i go visit him, i'm going to get revenge on him

Your mate sounds like a right dumb ass. But I doubt he meant to do any of it and is eternally sorry.

Mind you if I ever lent my treasured Light Blue MK1b to anyone, I'd make damn sure I told them important stuff like, "the brakes have a tendency to lock up and the hand brake's a bit feeble".

On second thoughts, I don't think I'll lend it out, there are some right muppets out there!

Well that's now been put through a wall, used to get about 35mpg before that though.

Also, for the record, no charges were brought against me for the incident with the chavs.

Yeah, I've been getting bang on 35Mpg in mixed use over the last 6 months. I'm gonna change plugs and oil this weekend, I'll see if that makes a difference.

I got 42mpg on a drive from Birmingham to Whitby (190 miles) last weekend, that was sitting at 80 on the motorway (75mph on the gps) for half of the distance and the rest on A roads so between 40 and 60mph. Was pretty happy with that. I get around 34 mpg around town.

Best I ever did was 43 mpg on the highway.

Averaged 35mpg on a 1200km trip earlier this month.

And in daily driving (mostly town) I get about 25.
