[Mk2] [NA] My Car Won't Start!!!!!

Post by MIBzUK »

Hi peeps

Can someone please help

I've got a MR2 Mk2 jap import, for some unknown reason it wont start. Its been running fine until one today i got up put the key in and nothing.

I've changed the battery, had the starter motor checked. changed some fuses but nothing.

When i turn the key i can hear the ignition relays ticking but nothing from the engine, the car did have an immobiliser which i got removed some time back.

Any advice out there?

Check the earth, run a lead (jump leads clamped together work) from your negative battery terminal to the starter motor, turn it over if it starts it will be a bad earth somewhere!

Hope that helps

Just be careful what your doing with the jump leads lol.Try this other test.

Turn ignition on and make sure you have all the warning lights lit up properly. Also check the starter relay as a starting point. With Ignition switched on and car out of gear go into the rear boot and locate the green relay on the engine rear bulkhead behind the carpet/cardboarding. Remove the plug from the relay and you have 4 wires,2 thick wires, two thin. Short across the two thicker wires with a paperclip or somthing and you should hear the starter turn and maybe the engine fire up.If so you know your starter is ok and it may be the starter relay.

Cheers for that mate...

I've had the starter motor checked out and been advised that its fine. I found that the wires for the plug going into the alternator had wound apart, so i've replaced that.

I can hear the starter motor turn, all the relays tick over, the fuel pump kick in... Just no motion from the engine!!!

Is there any chance that the ingtion coil which is located under the fuse box in the engine bay needs replacing.

Or any ideas what i should do next???

:-k I did a diagnostic test on the car and found there were 2 faults... having looked up the faults they come up as a water temp signal (code 22) and intake air temperature (code 24)

I don't think this has got anything to do with the reason why my car is not starting... anyone got any ideas? ](*,)

check the 120A fuse under the front. Small square thing, second in from the left IIRC
