what is the level showing on the clutch fluid reservoir, or any sytem leaks ?

lots of reports regarding uprated 3sgte clutch engage probs. quite likely scenario 10+ years after a car left the factory....new uprated clutch & old master/slave cylinders...:-k

Who are you asking??

Mine is meant to be at the bottom. Well just above the pedal stop anyway.

Another question - how many hours labour to change a clutch on an MR2 ?

Can you tell me approx how many hours for an MR2 specialist ? and say for an experienced (but not on MR2's) mechanic ?

Just ballpark ?

Yip my Spec Stage II was great.... right up until it broke on my standard rev3...wouldn't fit another spec clutch even if it was free...

i have the exedy stage 1 clutch, have problems going into reverse if i dont do it slowly then it will crunch like its not opening but thats about it tbh. ive had gearbox rebuild, new fluid change to 5.1dot and the clutch out and put back in again and still the same so i just have to live with it. good clutch though

Opted for a cusco single plate clutch with matching cusco cover plate-400 bhp or lbsft? Rogue re-built the gearbox to new with uprated bearings-shims-trd-lsd and so on and did the clutch same time.Along with the trd quick-shift gear lever and metal busher the gear change is slick and as smooth as silk the pedal pressure is effortless.

The main features for choosing this cusco unit/s were lighter-weight-better
heat transfer-uprated-capacity-sports driving.

Only thing is i like the pedal to come off low from the floor but needs to get bedded in...how long does that take? :)

Is the pedal on the OS giken a lot heavier than stock?

What about engagement? Is it slippable at lowish RPMs or mostly on/off?

It is heavier although not overly so. I like a decent amount of resistance though, it somehow feels more reassuring than some paper weight efforts i've used in the past.

It can be slipped but this kind of usage will kill such a clutch faster than any amount of launching! That being said I would not describe it as on or off :)

500 hundred or so miles should see you right Harry. Avoid heavy standing starts. You need to create in gear load to insure it beds in correctly, start off easy and increase as the miles get on :)

Stick with it, and get used to it. Then give it a few hard launches and you'll remember why you went with it.

You're right - I'm getting used to it now. My exhaust is a little loose, so when engaging sometimes, it can rattle.

With this sh1tty weather, I just have no desire to get under the car to take a look :| So, once I get a look at that and sort the rattle, then I may even enjoy the clutch :D

My intercooler (i think) bangs badly on jerky launches. Could be the whole engine banging on the soft mounts too. I've got a v-max anti torque bar going on soon, so that should lock it all in place. Only concern I have about that is that its probaly gonna remove the only bit of torsional give in that area.

I used to have a spec stage 3 6 puck paddle clutch in my old car, it was either on or off, no slipping that one at all you get used to it in no time, don't pull up behind the car infront, just drive with bigger gaps in front. :thumleft:
