best tricks for touching up worn leather seats?

Post by dabcabc »

what's the best way to touch up the side of the drivers seat where it's a tad worn? i've had a few suggestions from friends including using some shoe polish and buffing it out but am a bit cautious, don't really want black marks on my clothes after driving and all... are there any professional products that will work on this, and are they worth the money?

any suggestions gratefully recieved :)

I've been told shoe polish also. Just gota make sure you get it all off. Then test it by going out for lively spin in some old clothes. When done, get out and check your clothes. If it's still coming off keep on buffing with a rag or something.

When I first got my NA the seats, especially the drivers was a total mess. I purchased some liquid leather from: http://www.liquidleather.com/liquidl.htm

Took the seats out and spent a couple of hours with them in the garage and did them with the liquid leather, the result was fantastic, looked just like new, all the white cracks had gone....fantastic stuff.

You can water it down a little and wash the seat with the dye, leave it 30mins and then apply the conditioner and hey presto new seats.

Well worth the money, one purchase has lasted about 3yrs now and thats with lending it to others.

Trouble is it doesn't look like this will change the colour of the leather, just treat it. Don't know if it's obvious from my picture, but the leather has been worn down so there's nothing to treat. Could do with some dye really but not sure what to go for, think i'll give the shoe polish idea a bash. Doesn't help that the order link on the liquid leather page is down either. :)

It actually dyes what is there, I had some bald patches and now you cannot see them as they have been dyed in, its NOT just a rejuvinator, actually recolours the seat.

In the kit you get various pots of paint type stuff to alter the shade of colour, you also get another bottle of stuff which is a gloss enhancer.

Believe me, the previous owner of my car wrecked the drivers seat, now its good as new after a few applications of this stuff.

shoe polish works well. make sure it is the wax type you apply with a brush, but put it on with a cloth, let it dry and buff well. it won't come off on your clothes and will make that area look a lot better.
