Bolt removing service??

Post by Paul R »

Hi,

Is there such a thing as a place that provides a bolt removing service? One of my font engine mount bracket bolts was sheared off when I got my car - I tried to drill it out but cannot get it out - so I thought I best get the engine in and take it somewhere that can do it properly. Better do that, than make a pigs ear of it!

There is about a 6" clearance between the gearbox and the bolt hole - do you think it's possible to do with the engine in situ? Or am I going to be paying for someone to take the bloody engine out, when I've just put it back in?? :(

Cheers,

Paul.

hiya mate,

if i remember right are you from around nantwich way???
if so have you tried ABP motorsport in shavington, i had a similar problem and they couldn`t help enough, in my case it ended up being an engine out job but they were even going to order new tools just for the job, id give them a go, they should be able to give you a rough price before they start

Paul, you talking about the 4 bolts that bolt the front engine mount up to the chassis from the gearbox mount ( front engine mount )??

If so, I wouldn't worry about one giving way, as long as the other 3 are fine - the load is absorbed across the width of the plate - so you won't have any issues.

You can actually get away with just two bottom bolts fitted at a push.

Hiya,

the front mount, yeah. Cheers for that. Thats all thats left - the two bottom bolts. top two sheared off!

My girlfriends dad used to be a welder, so he is going to make me some kind of plate to go over the top two holes, or weld some studs on the bulkhead so I can secure the top ;)

I'm estimating two nights until the car is running! ;)
