Here's a clue:

BenF wrote:- You would be driving their cars rather than your own MR2 on the skidpan (skidpans today don't seem to let you drive your own cars on them any longer as road tyres tend to rip up the rubber/oil surface)

Location : TBC, but would be Midlands based

reckon i can work it out from your clue!

will decide when we know where it is- but woulod think its benefit would be reduced if its in the standard FWD family hatch etc etc

Skid pans usually have both FWD and RWD cars. Some also put a car on a cage which can adjust all the corners individually which can simulate any kind of skid you like - up to full aquaplane where you're just a passenger.

I've also been to one where both cars were Sierras (RWD), but they'd bodged the suspension and tyre pressures on one to make it handle like FWD - ie really understeer prone.

It's unlikely they will have a mid-engined car with all the snapping oversteer tendencies that an MR2 has, but a lot of these courses are "skid avoidance". If you want to go drifting, go on a drift day.

If you've not done one before, you'll probably still find it very instructive. And if you want to do some limit handling in your own car - have a look at the thread on the Car Limits airfield day: http://www.imoc.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?t=72435

We are likely to have sessions available on the wet grip at Rockingham - less wear on your car and tyres, and you get to do it in your car.
Keep an eye out for details which will be posted soon (for those who really want to try control their MR2!)

I'm happy to bring one along if they can accomodate it. I mean, it's not like they're not stuffed full of safety equipment is it?! :D

Might be worth an ask, and would give those people signed up the opportunity to at least have a go at skid control in an MR2.

Patrick

Thats an excellent idea Patrick, if you were prepared to do it i'm sure most of us you take you up on the offer. (Well i would at least :-D )

Patrick,

Cheers for the offer :thumleft:

Looks like we do have enough for me to go back and start talking to them about some specific dates - I'll ask about potentially getting the MR2 challenge car then as well.

When I asked about putting road cars on the skidpan, I got a definite No, but I'll ask them again ...

OK, Confirmed - we have one (and possibly a second date) for the skidpan training.

I'll lock this thread and start a new one with the details, prices etc.
