[Mk2] [NA] am i being screwed by mechanic?

I have just purchased some new goodies







thought i would start by fitting the exhaust which was a bit of a with the car still up on the ramps i tried to fire her up but she wouldnt go i went about checkin everything turning it over repeatidly till i found the fuse had gone for the e.c.u but now it was running rough as it had badly flooded so took plugs out cleaned them up turned engine over with plugs out put it all back together ran up beautifully and sounded lovely took it off the ramps ran it down the road about a mile and then it happened engine started knocking like hell "big end" checked oil and it was low i guess having it on the ramps must have starved it so today i have removed sump and shells are fcukd and journal is marked but i am gonna try changing shells anyway as i have spent £400 on these mods i am to broke to replace crankshaft i am so gutted any1 got a free rev 1 engine lol

right o.k shells are no longer an option just gonna put another motor in i have found a low mileage auto motor but is the crank different also a rev 3 motor what are the differences other than the inlet????

Sorry to hear about ya troubles mate.

Same thing happened to me awhile back.

I got a Rev 1 N/A crank boxed ready to go, purchased when the my big ends went but never used as I did a tubby conversion, PM me.

i have found a low mileage auto motor but is the crank different also a rev 3 motor what are the differences other than the inlet????

You'll need the ECU and engine wiring harness as a minimum. The igniter and coil pack are also different, as is the exhaust flexi section... You'll need to stick your shiney new manifold back on eBay as well., 'cos that ain't gonna fit.

A rev 2 engine will slot straight in, the crank is identical in every 3S engine throughout the life of the MR2. Be sure to re-use the wiring loom and ECU from your existing engine and you'll have no issues whatsoever.

right i ended up buying a engine from a rev 1 auto import dropped car and engine off to local mechanic because i just havent got the patience anymore but he phoned me up today saying it would be an extra £100 £300 total because he had to swap inlet manifold injector rail thermostat housing and a few other bits over because they were completely different from my u.k spec am i being screwed here or is this right also he said the cam belt kit i got was the wrong one as my engine has hydraulic tensioners and new ones are sprung but i wasnt asked when i bought it if mine was import or not so far this ordeal has cost me £640 should have gone tubby or started fresh

why the hell would would it matter if the inlet or the stat housing was diff - its a new engine!! ?? why would he need to even think about swapping anything ???

It worked fine on the car the engine was from so it will work fine in yours cant think why he woul dwant to change it!

hes saying that my loom wont fit my new engine but they looked the same i would think that some things arent used as my model has no lamda
