Hi all thanks for all your help on this board, I got this mr2 about 14 months ago as a surprise for my wife ( she always wanted a red sports car) and mr2 came to mind, Not having any previous knoledge of these cars, I had a quick look around it bodywork was pretty good, interior almost immaculate. The seller took me for a spin and I decided to part with the best of £1400 which I realise now was a bit high. Drove it home 80 miles and was amazed at how these things drive, I had always had fast bikes and thought nothing could compare to myR6 but this car felt really nice, It drove home all the way lovely, I was impressed. NOW the probs started.. On getting the car home I discovered she was running like a dog, after the long run the car was hunting at tickover and also had oil leaks, the seller had obviously moved it because I did check the road where it was parked and all was clean. Anyway 14 months later and shes almost ready for the mot that she failed last year, Main probs were suspension corrosion, all the engine probs are sorted apart from a slight misfire or something, its a sort of popping sound and a slight judder of the engine at tickover that happens every 5-15 seconds, but the car runs fine when being driven and the revs stay firm??? so any suggestions would be appreciated, I have new plugs and leads so thats not the prob, but everyone who listens tells me its a slight misfire???. I liked this car so much despite all the problems, that I have now got an mr2 for myself but needs loads of work. Thankfully its lots bodywork which I can cope with, as the engine runs sweet (at the mo,dont wanna speak too soon). Anyway thanks everyone for a great board and all the decent helpful people on here.

Yea its annoying but at least the car is running well, (apart from this) If you watch the engine you can actually see it judder when it does this, Toyota gave it a service and changed the plugs and leads as well as fixing the cooling system and oil leaks which was causing it to idle erratic from 300rpm to 1500rpm at tickover, but sent it back to me with this misfire fault, I paid em about £350 in all so dont know why they didnt sort it at the time??? Im too scared to put in in to Toyota again, big $$$$, when they done the last M.O.T they actually gouged out all the underside of the car with a screwdriver or something, looking for work i suppose, The car is undersealed and they have taken it back to bare metal in places, They knew the week spots and totally exposed em,,, thanks all turtle

Toyota did this?
Sounds to me like they funked up mate.
Thats why it pays to know beforehand what work needs doing.......I never take my car to any garage and say...'I dunno what's wrong with it' fatal error from past experiences.
Anyway...not a dig that mate  ....I'd take it back to them and say since you had it back...it's worse.....they shouldnt charge you....all repair work (where appropriate) should be covered by a warranty.....especially if it's a Mr T garage.

Thing is, I genuinely didnt know what was wrong with it, im ok at bodywork but engine works is a whole different ball game to me and it was my first mr2, but I am learning...I guessed it was probs with the cooling system after looking on this site and knew it had oil leaks, but I couldnt do it myself at the time due to a major op, also the major erratic idleing may have disguised the misfire. the engine was going up and down like a rollercoaster. Just dont know why they didnt report the misfire?? usually they love to tell you something else is wrong with your car, they just sent it back and said its running sweet. but you need to pay £700 for suspension work which I am now doing myself cost approx £100 in parts(if i can get em). cheers turtle

sometimes the core plugs in the head (between the spark plug wells)start to weep coolant onto the plugs causing a slight misfire, worth checking :-k
Watch out OZ here I come !!
