DIY respray progress pictures...

been respraying my car this weekend using earlex HVLP system. Here are the pics of the progress so far. Sorry if the boobies offend anyone that are masking bits off!!! just waiting for it to dry off, then will get out there tomorrow afternoon with the G3 to get rid of the handful of sags I've got, and buff it up, hopefully.

Yup - looks good in the photos! Will be cool to see it 'in the flesh'! How many coats?
You realise you've also sprayed your windscreen washer jets and door handles - if you wanted them white as well would've been much better to have removed them and sprayed off the car. As it is the jets are unlikely to work now - even if you open the front with a pin the spray will be rubbish...

looks a fairly good finish, im going to paint my own car when the time comes. the best thing about white paint is that it looks good in any finish, just so long as its smooth. doesnt matter if it comes out shiny or matt, perfect for DIY'ing

in fairness, its a damn good idea! if you dont need a power connection (or have a petrol generator you can take along) it saves making a mess in your own garage. take a picnic and make a day of it

it's a shared garage thing at my block of flats. Nice isn't it? lol. it now has (as well as the graffiti) Toyota Super White II all over the walls where I practised.

I gave my arches about 5 coats, but the rest of the car had 1 quick coat and 2 thick coats.

I masked the aerial up don't worry (just in case you were), and i put pins in the washer jets too so that paint didn't go in there. As for the handles, I've got some new ones coming to go on because mine were already painted (and one's broken) so for now I just covered up the key hole and sprayed away. I haven't been home to have a look at it today, hopefully it hasn't been trashed by the local teenagers, although my masking paper has probably been stolen.

Will be putting plastic bits back on that I took off this afternoon, then gonna get the G3 on it - the perfect hangover cure!!!

For the bumpers, I just rubbed them down, then covered them with bumper primer the day before the big job, and then sprayed them with paint that went on rest of the car. I did try and take them off, but the first 2 bolts on back bumper snapped, so I gave up and left them on to do it.

It's quite exciting jumping in and doing it. Although it's obviously not a show room finish, it definately looks better than before I started, and in total it cost just under £250 to do, which included;

Earlex Spraystation 3900 HVLP system
3 litres of cellulose paint
1 litre bumper primer
1 litre cellulose primer
5 litres antibloom thinner
25 sheets P360 wet 'n dry
25 sheets P800 wet 'n dry
25 sheets P1200 wet 'n dry
4 rolls masking tape
1kg G3
Farcela polishing cloth
sanding block
20 disposable face masks
1 disposable suit
10 metres charcoal grey pin stripes
Genuine Toyota decals for front bumper, rear bumper, boot lid.

oh, yeah, here it is with stripes & stickers etc. still needs a t-cut or something to shine it right up, but just too busy at moment to do it. ignore the dodgy re-sprayed wheels please, they were gold before!!! i'm looking for some new ones, considering MK3 wheels but may just stick to MK1 jobbies for now... at the end of the day, its better than when i bought it ) lol

to be honest, I didn;t find it difficult at all. the prep was boring but speeded up with an electric sander to rough up exsisting paint, the missus with wet n dry to get into awkward areas, then gave it a few washes and then sprayed away. then, hard work with wet n dry and G3 to get rid of orange peel. I still need to do this, but am going to buy a decent polisher (not like the ones from halfords, the mits slip on them and they've got no power) and a mop to go over it with that. might order it now actually... job for this weekend! also I'm seriously considering being uber lazy and getting the electric sander on it with some P1200 wet & dry lol. if i mess it up, i can just paint over the panel again I guess, so i'll prob try it out on the engine cover first so i can whip it off to repaint if needed.

anyone got a sander/polisher for sale for a good price? want one that looks like an angle grinder type thing...

if you need to paint again just use more thinner next time and you wont get orange peel effect, but may have to use more coats. good things those HVLPs car looks good!

nothing more satisfying than painting the 2 yourself. i did the feral bout 3 or so years back.
same colour, bright white. it came off the gun prity well, but a good machine buff had it like a mirror.

you have used much better masking off paper than me though.
