[Mk2] [Generic] Yet another centre locking problem - help

When I open the driver’s door and sit in the car, using the button on the driver’s door, the centre locking will lock but not unlock.
If I put the ignition key is in the ignition and turn the ignition on then the door locks will lock and unlock using the button on the driver’s door.
If I take the ignition key out still the same (i.e. lock and unlock). As soon as I open and close the driver’s door, I can only lock and not unlock the doors again!
Has anyone elase seen this problem and if so, how do I fix it?

I had a very similar problem before, was in a Carina. The locks also seemed to fire when the door was opened. It was all very weird. Remember that lark with the key in the ignition!

There was a dead alarm in mine. Traced the lock and unlock cables from the button in the driver door and found where the alarm was spliced in. Snip snip, everything was fine.
