Put the engine in last night!! :)

Hi,

I actually got the engine into the engine bay last night I'm happy - can start to put it back together now.

I just thought of something though - I forgot to torque the crankshaft pulley bolt before it went in. Is it possible to do it witht he engine in situ? if so how?

Hi Paul,

Glad to see you getting there! To tighten the bolt you could always lock the engine in gear and do it that way? So you have some force going in the other direction to stop the engine turning as you crank the bolt up.

Hopefully my engine is going to be finished this weekend - long time coming especially when I can only work on it 1 day a week and have been waiting 2 months for bits!

Good luck mate. Are you going to have a starting ceremony?

I was more worried about the amount of space in the engine bay. I'm not sure my torque wrench would fit in there. I'll have a look tomorrow.

I'm aiming to get my car running for next weekend. cant wait!

lol, I actually have a bottle of champange chilled and ready to go for when its all done! My parents will be estatic as it means they can have their cellar back. Every weekend (well most of them) I have had to drive 45 miles just to work on the engine and then another 45 miles back home! What makes it worse is sh*t head part suppliers who clearly have no clue about service and cant ship parts when they say they will. Still the ordeal is almost over [-o<

I'm aiming to get my car running for next weekend. cant wait!

Man all you guys just finishing up, and I'm just getting started. Expect to see many posts from me over the coming months about various obsticles I come across.

I hope your start up goes a bit better than mine.

I plan to torque the crank pulley up when the wheels & brakes are back on. With the amount of force it took to get the nut off, theres no way it's ever going to fall out on it's own!

Cantfindausername - if you don't ask you don't find out. There's loads of things I should have asked which would have saved time.

Biggest mistake so far was forgetting to fit a coolant pipe across the end of the block before the turbo back on.

In the end we had to saw a bracket off it just to get it in place, as there was no way we were going to remove the exhaust, cat and turbo just for a pipe! If the turbo ever comes out again I'll weld the braket back on, honest!

lol, well my project will be taking place over possibly 12 months, so if I will be very meticulous (sp) about things going back on in the right order... just dont quote me on this when I have a box full of bits when I'm finished lol
