[Mk2] [Turbo] Upgrading the ARBs- a good idea on a road car or not??

Post by TheRoadWarrior »

Ok i currently have;

KW 3-way coilovers
Tein pillow ball front topmounts
8" front 9" rear wheels with 215/40 and 245/35 eagle F1s
Polybushes
new front/rear droplinks
new balljoints/wheel bearings

0.5 degs neg camber on the front, 2 degs neg camber on the rear

I'm interested in making the car handle as well as possible on the road (and track, but this is primarily a road car).

I went for the KW's for their adjustability, and straight out of the box (factory settings for rebound/compression) they're very impressive.. more compliant than the previous lowering springs, but also so much more controlled on max-attack. I've yet to experiment with the settings for rebound/comp. as i'm trying to get the geometry right first- i've taken some toe out of the front and rear (an idea from the US forums) but it feels it has reduced the rear grip so i'm putting it back in tomorow. (last week in the wet i was opposite locking on every roundabout!)

Anyway.. after fiddling with the geo and the coilover settings is a set of upgraded or adjustable ARBs a good idea or not? I'm thinking probably the TRDs.. I'm aware that too much stiffness and reduction of body roll is going to make the car so sharp the breakaway is going to be v.sudden.. the last thing i want to do is bottom the car out on a compression and end up backwards in a ditch! (I have the car lowered around 20-30mm so its not slammed).
Obviously ARBs will reduce the body roll, but combined with coilovers would the TRDs be too much?? Obviously i have a fair bit of adjustment in the coilovers so i can adapt things for the ARBs.... :-k :-k

I have got TRD ones . and they are superb .i never had hard coilovers just koni dmapers set to hlfay hardness , never gave me ant back end problems

I have heard of fitting uprated to the front this will help keep the front stiffer and aid turn in , but leaving OEM on the back to soften the back up and keep the traction , however i have never done this myself and would recommend you researching it first yourself before taking a gamble with it

Yes guys, Tim does do his own. Very stiff, and thoughly recommended. 155% stiffer than stock.

Drop him an email, or go through his site. Please do NOT use the PM function on here, as he is not allowed to talk about xxxx on the forum.

Thanks lads,

I have the Whitelines on my car.

IMO you don't want too stiff a bar on the road and as the Whitelines are adjustable you can run them soft for general use (still a good amount over standard) crank them up for the track.

The price is very good from Demon Tweeks with the Premium members discount (even if you need to pay the £5).

i love uprated ARB's. we fitted a set to a prelude which already had d2 coilovers and polybushes and we'd seen the most improvement after fitting these definatly worth doing on any car!

Mostly TRD see garage car feels like brand new springy but not silly hard just perfect to include TRD bushers-anti-roll bars..etc...

Not saying don't become a premium member but you do not need to be one to get the 10% discount with Demon Tweeks.

The discount is available for all members.
