Rear wheel bearing replacement

Post by Dukey »

Hi guys, im sure there is a post on this already somewhere, but i cant find it??? Has anybody ever had to change a rear wheel bearing, how difficult is it? And also any idea on how much a new bearing costs? By the way its for a 1992 UK N.a MR2.

Thanks in advance

mines being done (again!!!) on wednesday. a new rear cost me £50.
Labour is about £60, or hour half/2 hours work.

Some people remove the hub first and take into the garage like that, but being lazy i just let them do it all, s0d the £20 you save.

Cant really do it yourself, a bearing change.

And try not to let it 'rumble' for too long, as u can ruin ur hub. Dont try this, but mine was noisy for about 4 months and the hub was ok, but i was probably just lucky with that, and it wasnt that bad.

hope this helps mr Dickinson.

Rear Wheel bearing replacement

In fact, depending on how mechanically minded you are i guess, changing it is quiet easy i found last summer. Remove wheel, remove all connecting bolts to the caliper, strut & linkage arms etc. Now remove disc & hub assy after removing drive shaft nut & cotter pin. Take whole assy to your local dealer / any garage for them to press out old bearing and pressin the new bearing. When done, re assemble as reverse of above using new cotter pin. Simple, but at first appears hard. Good luck. :^o
