Just to say, how long till you leave, and how much time would i have 2 arrange for it 2 come back up. Also russ hav u got a parking space i could rent from you for 1 or 2 weeks for some rent money, £50? just so that i have enough time to organise getting the car up here. Cheers

You still have to have proof of export from Gibraltar (from the log book), and regardless you still have to pay the customs on any items entering into the UK regardless of wether it's part of the EU or not.

Have you paid the customs on it when it entered the uk? Have you got your C&E 386 certificate? Or is the car still in the UK as a "guest"?

This is begining to sound more and more complicated, so what does registering a car in the uk actually consist of? not just a simple filling in of a form or 2?

Just been on the dvla site and it all sounds very complicated, i need :

completed application form V55/4 (for new vehicles) or V55/5 (for used vehicles)

a £50.00 registration fee (if applicable) the required fee for the licence

a current British certificate of insurance

foreign registration document and any other papers you have relating to the vehicle

evidence showing the date the vehicle was collected (normally the invoice from the supplier)

evidence of type approval

the appropriate HM Revenue and Customs form HM Revenue and Customs forms required to register an imported vehicle

a current British MOT test certificate (if applicable)

a declaration of newness V267 (if applicable).

documentation confirming your name and address

and this is all for a car which is less than 10 yrs old. for a car more than 10 yrs old i need to phone them up......

any advise from someone who's delt with importing a vehicle would be greatly apprechiated. Also will it be more or less complicated since its a double import (japan-gibraltar-uk)

Gav you will need:

1.) Proof of export from Gibraltor
2.) Invoice as proof of payment
3.) V55 document (available from dvla)
4.) C&E 386 certificate as proof of payment of duty when it entered uk (if this isnt available you'll be looking at about 10% and 17.5% ontop of that so say at a declared value of £500 * 1.1 * 1.175 = £646.25 so you'll pay £146.25)
5.) Registration Fee (£38 )
6.) Insurance (based on chasis number)
7.) Valid MOT
8.) Payment of either 6 or 12 month road tax (at what ever rate it is)
9.) Your drivers licence and 2 utility bills as proof of address

Gav.....i wouldnt get too in deep into this, as its only a rev1 import with little or no history with no mot and no tax. There must be a non drama MR2 closer to Scotland !!!

If this was in the auto-trader, it wouldnt get any more than the current "bid" on ebay. bare in mind that the seller and the 2 bidders all have 0 feedback, and all have registered on ebay with the last few months. I know people have to start somewhere with feedback, but the amount of times i have been dick'd around who have private or low feedback when i have sold stuff in the past is crazy !

This car was for sale on here in 5 seperate threads with little or no interest.

Best bet would be to sell for spares, as the cost of registering it would have this an expensive rev1, unless this was 100% mint with full history.

Just my opinion.

Have you tried one of the many mr2 breakers....this may be the best bet to sell quickly.

Not trying to put you off, but there isnt a shortage of MK2's around for sale.

thanks for trying to put him off the sale mate - the only reason why the car was on before was that i was going to register so i could sell it for more, but i just didnt have the time.

end of the day its up to you, ive given russ my address so he can check the car out. all i know is for the price you will get it and a little effort of sorting out the registration u will get a fing decent car....

anyway up to you..... auction ends in 2 days with 10 watchers

Sorry, wasnt trying to talk him out of it, am sure if he wants it, he'll buy it !

Just trying to travel from one end of the country to the other with no tax, insurance, mot or plates would be a bit risky...unless he has access to trade plates of course.

Any way, good luck with it, am sure you'll sell before you leave the country.

there's off-road oarking where i live but i wouldn't like to be responsible for a car that doesn't belong to me. mine have always been fine in the 5 years i've lived there though.

also thought, have people considered that if its from a country with a better climate than ours, rust shoudn't be a problem on it, which is a bit of a brucey bonus. wish mine was from somewhere hot.

can you not leave the foreign plates on it for the buyer to make getting it home a lot lot easier? if it has no plates it will attatract attention from the law, but at least with foreign plates on it, it won't stick out very much?

hi

mate is you need anything after ive sold the car then i will give you my contact number abroad and will be happy to give u anything else you need.

i would give it with the foreign plates but that could open a can of worms on my end....

uk import

Post by cyeats »

the funny thing is before the car was import to gibraltar it was imported to the uk first and then someone droive it to gibraltar, so maybe you wont even have to re register it that way, i dont have the full history but its owrth looking into once you have the car
