[Mk2] [Turbo] TRC light always on

Post by ast »

I did a track day in my rev2 turbo today and now the TRC light in the speedometer, that normally flashes when TRC is operating, is always on. It does not matter if I switch off TRC from the button, it just lights up the another lamp. I didn't try yet if TRC works at all.

My brake pads are pretty much finished after trashing the car on the track so could this effect TRC? ABS is still working properly so I don't think it could be a bad wheel sensor.

I also had to adjust the throttle flap stopper screw just a tiny bit yesterday because throttle butterfly was starting to stick in the closed position. I don't think that this is the problem either because TRC was working after the adjustment, but the light just come up at some point on the track.

I drove all the time on the track TRC switched off.

I have this same problem.. Some times when i'm driving the TRC lamp is lit up all the time.. I find that if i stop the car turn it off and on again the light will go back to working normally.. and so does the traction control..

In all honesty i think it was a addon that toyota thought of at a later date...

as far as i'm aware it is linked into the ABS sensors to tell if the wheels are slipping or not.. i would start there.. when i get around to it i'll be having the abs checked..

Left rear wheel bearing seems to be on it's way out. Could this affect the ABS sensor so that it's not working when not braking and thus affecting TRC?

Interesting, i've had this since getting my car 2 years ago. It'll come on sometimes when i pull away. Do you have an aftermarket LSD by any chance?? I have an ATS 1.5Way and in the manual it says it can affect traction control systems or at least the wheel sensors i think... :-k

I had this problem when I first bought the car. It had come straight from the importer who had done all usual speedo and lights conversion work to make the car road legal for the UK.
Whenever I revved above 3000-4000 RPM or so the TRC light would appear and stay on until I turned off the ignition and restarted the car.

On checking my ecu error codes I had a code 42 - speed sensor signal error - turned out the KPH to MPH converter the import company used was not fully compatible with the ECU and I ended up getting it replaced with one made by Stef Derner (I think that's the name) as Peter at SBITs recommended.

After Peter swapped out the convertor the problem disappeared and the car was no longer limited to 'safe mode' (this was when my car was still running on the stock boost control system)

Another way of triggering the TRC light to stay on all the time is to not have the TRC connectors slotted in properly - this might happen when you replace the spark plugs as you would have to unplug the TRC plug and then remove the throttle body part to get access to some of the plugs.

Not sure if any of the above applies to you guys though...

TRC working again but lost P/S...

Post by ast »

Yesterday traction control started working by itself. I was fixing the right side door central locking switch and the next time I was driving I noticed that TRC is working again.

Today when leaving work the P/S light would come on and no power steering anymore. There is fluid in P/S and TRC is still working...

I seem to have the following error codes:

P/S: 11
ABS: 53
TRC: 43 and 51

EDIT:

Power steering problem solved: just switched ignition on/off and after 5 or 6 times I heard relay clicking under the front hood and power steering started working again...
