[Mk2] [Generic] locking playing up, wont unlock.

Post by Mr2GtBlue »

My car wont open the locks properly, i press the unlock button on my keyfob and the locks unlock but then quickly re lock.

Ive found a way of getting into the car without using the keyfob but this is starting to really annoy me now also I have a toad alarm fitted.

Any suggestions on what might be causing this?

A wiring fault between the lock button on the drivers control panel and the fuse box most likely. Take the door card off and trace the wiring from the switch through the rubber pipe between the door and chassis.

The lock cable from the switch unit to the door lock control relay should be Black and unlock Black with Yellow stripe.

When the lock button is pressed it earths the Black cable. If there is a break in that cable somewhere along the way it will cause the central locking to lock everytime it touches bare metal or another earth.

Thanks for that mate its very helpful, ive looked at the two wires you sugested and they look fine ( the black and yellowblack) from the lock switch to door lock.

How would i test the wires from the lock switch to the drivers fusebox?

Sorry mate I worded it a bit wrong there.

The Black (lock) and Black-Yellow (unlock) cables should run from the door lock to the door lock control ECU (pins 12 and 9 respectively). The Red-Black (lock) and Green-Black (unlock) cables run from the switch in the window control thing on the drivers door to pins 10 and 11.

The door lock control ECU is located behind the dash to the right of the aircon vent that's to the right of the steering wheel. If there was damage to the cables on the other side of the ECU you'd probably just get no power to your door locks. So you're looking at cables between the door lock ECU and either the switch in the door panel or the door lock itself.

If any of the lock cables are damaged that's likely your problem (Black or Red-Black). Pay particular attention to where the alarm is spliced into the loom, probably the Red-Black and Green-Black wires, making sure the connection is well insulated. It could also be a faulty door lock ecu or a faulty alarm brain.

To test for a circuit with a multimeter put one probe at each end of the wire and measure the resistance. It won't change when you apply the two probes if there's a break. Otherwise it'll jump up.

Hope that's a little clearer :thumleft:
