DANGER ! WARNING ! if selling your car, read this!!!!!!!!!!!

Post by MADMAN »

Having advertised my 355 replica on the net on various sites, I thought I had sold it after several emails, and a chq. arriving in the post, headed
BBC Auf wiedershen pet special, I put it in the bank and only after asking for the cheque to be examined was I told three days later it was a forgery.
luckily I HAVE STILL GOT MY CAR and have found out it is a known SCAM
from the fraud office at my bank. after contacting the police asking if they wanted to catch the SCAMMER when he was supposed to collect car this wed. comming, was told that the police are not interested. belive it or not. so if you are selling your car just beware and make sure the payment is safe however you sell it. good luck MADMAN

Cheers for the heads up.

That is just unbelieveable from the police though, you're handing someone who's commited fraud to them on a plate and that's their response :(

So this scumbag is going to turn up at your house. I dont get it, if the cheque was fraudulent then the bank wouldnt honour it and you wouldnt hand over the car. Does this idiot think you were going to hand him the keys before the cheque cleared (which it obviously wouldnt). As for the police response it doesnt really suprise me, it seems dealing with fraudsters takes up too much of their time, a freind of mine was scammed a while ago and the police didnt give a toss.

i had the same thing when i sold my peugeot, i got an email from someone who said they were in amsterdam and wanted to buy the car. They then said that they'd send a cheque for the asking price plus £2k or something ridiculous to cover the export costs by their courier in the uk. All i had to do was bank the cheque and pay the £2k to the courier. The scam works based on buyers who are impatient or unsuspicious or both (not helped by our banks which will show the new balance even though the cheque hasn't cleared).
All this happened a couple of years ago when the this a relatively new scam, but when i sold my motorbike on the internet in march07 i got 4 of these scum bags within the week trying the same thing on, so be warned.

Incidently, with the car sale i decided to call his bluff and emailed him back saying i was holidaying in amsterdam the following week so i could deliver the car myself, funny but he never got back to me......

suprise suprise no one arrived to collect car,but I had a strange phone call on monday, apparently from the scammers wife, who cried down the phone and told me she was sorry for what her husband was trying to do, after telling her a lie saying the fraud squad was on his case ( I wish!!!!!!!
the to..ers are not interested ) she cried some more and asked me to ring her back, like f...k. so I have not heard from them since.
SO CAR STILL FOR SALE. THIS TIME CASH ONLY and I have a box of marker pens to check every note. can be seen at
www.355madman.piczo.com for £10,500 genuine pounds. ( its the one onthe right L.reg. twin entry turbo.
I hope this makes every body even more cautious. MADMAN

The police can't do anything like waiting to nab him because legally (and I KNOW THIS SOUNDS RIDICULOUS)

...it's actually entrapment and would not hold up in court.

But - if you batted him with a baseball bat YOU'D be done for assault! so there's a good example of the lovely fair system this country operates...

That's not entrapment at all - the police didn't setup the sale of the car.

So when the police get a tipoff about a bank job they can't turn up?
