screw on afm?

hey i have a 91 rev 1 turbo with an afm, what does the screw on the top do?

Alters the mixture on idle chap - is basically a air channel... if it allows more air to bypass the air flow meter flapper door, then it runs leaner, since the ecu calculate fueling based on the degree the flapper doors open.

when i was at nobles a while ago they said my car was running lean, and by the look of the rear bumper i can now see that. if this screw adjusts that can it stop me running as rich if i let more or less air through?
