falken 451

Post by pcwinks »

Im,looking to buy some 17's with new tyres, guy at the shop recomends falken 451 tyres.
up to now iv'e used S02,s F1,s & Proxes T 1S. I also rate them in that order in the wet or dry on the road. Has anybody compared these with falken 451.

I've never been a fan of the falkens, I've had them in 2 different sizes now and I think that in general they are a pretty poor tyre especially when compared to the likes of the proxies.

I found that grip in the wet was very poor and the amount of tyre squeel I used to get when driving in a 'spirited' fashion was ridiculous.

As an alternative to all of the above I've just replaced my rears with Hankook Ventus K104 Sport and I think that they are a great tyre, especially for the price (£65 a piece from www.mytyres.co.uk). I've not given them a thorough testing yet but the are really impressing me at the minute, loads of grip in the dry, good in the wet, and they give lovely feedback through the corners. I'm going to replace my fronts with the same tyres within the next week or so.

I'm sure I'll get slated for mentioning Hankook but I'm really impressed with the new range.

Hope this helps

Cheers

Great tyres for the money... is that vague enough?

(I have them on my Supra and they cope well with the power, not the best in the wet though)

I had them on my Rev3 a couple of years ago and they scared the crap out of me in the wet. I replaced them with Eagle F1's as soon as - even though I probably had close to a year worth of tread left on them.

My girlfriends Rev2 had Falken 451's as well and the car was even more tail happy than my Rev3 in the wet. Initially we put it down to suspension/geometry setting between the two cars. When the time was right, we fitted Toyos to her car and the rear end was far more predictable.

They were fine in the dry on both cars. Wouldn't go near them again though - just for wet handling reasons.

dont agree with you ...we ran in a championship where these were pretty much all you could use and they were very good - poor handling is more likely to be poor set up or a novice driver.

Fully agree. =D>

If you're not silly in the wet then any tyres will do, but nice to have piece of mind i guess.

i found 451's pretty good, federal ss595 were better though, and cheaper.

iv had my 451's for 3 weeks now, and for the money they are good. your not going to be going mad in the wet anyway if you'v got any sense!
it all depends how much you have got to spend.

Buy the best tyres you can is my advice, seeing as they are your only contact point to the road its one of those things not worth skimping on. Any tyre will do in the dry, mainly because you are unlikely to get beyond the limits of mechanical grip on the road. In the wet its a different story as the speed with which the tyres will break adhesion is obviously much lower. This is where better tyres prove their worth. Also grip is only half the story and arguably not the most important aspect. The key thing is progression, this is where cheaper tyres fall down. I'd say there are much better tyres out there than Falken's.

Yes, and thats the whole moral of this thread. Falkens are not the best, but good enough for 90% of drivers and their 'style'
