[Mk2] [Turbo] Rev 3 Turbo Oil Sump Replacement

Post by enzomorales »

A couple of spots of oil on my drive has revealed an oil leak on my Rev 3 Tubby. A look under the car shows the leak to be coming from corrosion on the side of the oil pan / sump. Does anyone know how easy it going to be to get hold of a replacement sump for a tubby? Does a rev 3 turbo share the same sump as a rev 3 UK n/a model ? or is it maybe the same as UK Celica GT4 of a similar year ? Appreciate any feedback on this. Cheers.

I think the Celica GT4 Alltrac ST162 ST165 ST182 ST185 and the MR2 GTS SW20 of all revisions use the same sump.

Thanks for feedback. The motor's in the garage for a new sump today so I guess I'll find out about any compatibility problems soon....I've searched around and think there maybe an issue with UK sumps having an oil level sensor where imports do not. Here's a photo of the corroded sump / oil leak for anyone interested.....Image

not sure if all revs do use the same sump
i had my sump gasket done at peters last year and i'm sure i remember him saying the rev1/2 had a 1 piece sump and the rev3+ a 2 piece
or maybe it was the other way round :-k #-o

Yup, rev 1/2 are a 1 piece sump and Rev 3+ are all 2 piece.

I had exactly the same problem on my rev3 sump and pretty sure it was corroded in exactly the same spot. 3S sorted it out for me whilst I had my clutch and flywheel installed.

Definatatly a 2 piece sump - confirmed by local garage ordering the wrong piece ie. the top section rather than the sump pan.....sump pan is going to take 10 days to ship and costs £117+vat+fitting. Garage assures me that this is definatly the correct part for a MR2 turbo....we'll see....
