I just said the Wrx was quicker... but the STI is about the same , and with a simple boost controller your now far quicker than an STI if people liked scoobies so much and wont hear a bad thing said , why buy a mr2 turbo instead of a sti then ;)

i'd have one, but i think it'd get too much of the wrong sort of attention. It'd certainly be a consideration if i ever need a 4 door car.

Any other car you would consider?

Im a real fan of the supra's , i nearly got a nissan pulsa gtir instead of this mr2 turbo but the insurance strangly was much more expensive , perhaps it had the image like the scooby :-s

The STi version is the faster than the WRX version. Fact.

A standard Impreza is quicker than a standard MR2 Turbo. Fact.

As I mentioned earlier, I had a WRX last year, and loved it to death as it was pretty much everything I wanted out of a car: practicality, power, handling, load-carrying ability (I had the wagon version). However...I love the styling of the Mk2 MR2 a hell of a lot, and the running costs of the Impreza were far higher than I was prepared to spend on a car.
Mk2 NA Rev1 -*- Mk2 Turbo Rev2 -*- Mk1 NA -*- Mk2 Turbo Rev 3 = all gone!

Thinking under £5000, on saloon sensible car front :-

I'd consider an audi A4 1.8T better image and very tunable, also very affordable, actually been trying to convince the other half to sell her car and get one, P plates go for about £3500. Good Scooby alternative.

Sports cars :-

RX7, too expensive to run other than as weekend car. I do like my MR2, hard to beat for cost effectiveness.

I believe a spanner in the works of this heated 'discussion' could be the sti WRX RA, a stripped out version of the WRX, no air con, no added comforts, a more thoroughbred rally car than your average chavved up toy. A guy I know from the formula student team i'm in is a co driver in his mates sti wrx ra. Said on one rally he was in the top ten not far behind the likes of full blown 300 grand rally cars! It's only mildy tuned as well. To be honest tho guys, it seems a bit silly arguing over it. The guy who wants his scooby, i'm lost who it is now, is obviously on here cos he loves 2's!!! I'm sure there are many reasons why someone would want to change, family, sample the delights of 4wd!

that would be me! 8)

i wont stop loving the Mk2 MR2, great cars (hense why i bought one!) i want a turbo and i want a change, the impreza offers the practicality which i need and like, there also respectable performance cars. (shame about the stigma) and its the cheaper alternative to an evo. although still not cheap, im concidering the WRX sti (97+) and ive got about 12k to spend, so by no means are they cheap chav available cars IMO, they can barely afford their buss fair to their nearest dealer let alone an impreza! the change over wont happen till august sometime as im building up my knowledge right now on the scooby forums before i buy, and want to take my time to find a bargain. ill still be on here of course and show u the car when i eventually get it! ill also be at santa pod with it

WRX's came ranging from 240 to 280BHP depending on age. STi (appropriately named!) came with 280bhp officialy but realistically had more (silly jap laws). it also had stiffer suspension better 'box, etc etc.

Wagon were supposedly down in power, although most owners doubt this.

English scoobies were slower, but by no means a slow car. Think the old ones came with around 215 officially. New ones are 215 or 265 for an STi.

WRX STi RA-strippe out to bu88ery. Same power as STi, but even more rally spec.

Unsure about ltd editions, although i know the P1 and 22B are extremely highly rated.
