ived wiped more scoobies than bog roll on my bum after a friday night curry. if you want speed you wont find it in subaru sooooooo many rubbish examples out there too and your gonna get shafted on insurance i gaurantee it. get a rev3 tubby or if you want true mr thrills better still buy a nice s1 elise like im doin for summer then sell it and buy an evo4 after. if you want true 4wd thrills you must go evo far superior.

the only thing i like about scoobies is the exhaust note and have considered getting one just for that heavenly sound.... cant be matched by any other cheap car :)

Totally agree Shaf. Say what you like about Scoobies, but you can hear one coming a mile off due to that lovely flat-four burble.

To those who have knocked the Scooby on this thread: drive one before making ill-informed opinions. I'd still have my WRX if it wasn't so bloomin' expensive to run.

Would a Supra be out of the question....? There's an awful lot of car to them and they are a bit special and rare. An imported Supra was the nearest alternative to the Rex. I'd love to comment on how they drive but I've never had the chance - I'm sure there's at least one person on IMOC with a Supra.... (c: Not sure on insurance and running costs though....

On the Scooby front - I know at least one dedicated IMOC'er who's now a two Scooby family and they're both certainly happy enough with them. I've never felt the attraction of Scooby but the people I know who own them all seem to love them. I'd say if it grabs you then go with it.

Other cars I considered were a VX220 NA (not the Tubby), Smart car cabriolet SC, Elise and the good old Mk1 SC (freshly imported).... In the end though the Rex came up first.

Cheers,
Si.

SCoobies are great cars, otherwise there wouldnt be so many about.
But, they have a bad rep as the price has fallen to chav area. more and more chavs are buying them as a "bling thing" as not maintaining them, not driving respectfully etc.

As said b4, popular to nick as they are easy to sell on as chavs buy them and dont know how to check for VIN's etc. Lots crashed as chavs drive them. therefore ins is stupid.

The MR2 turbo is 20 same as evo, supra tt jdm, scooby wrx and sti, but there are different grades within each group. mr2 turbo is going to cost me around 1500. scooby wold have cost me 2500. evo 3500

No thanks i want to drive something special , scoobies are just far to common and from what ive noticed so far driven by complete idiots with no respect for children on the road. Every day i hear a scooby thrashing up our road , and its not always the same one!

And most scooby owners that ive seen are fat, whats up with that?

Evo's are far nicer, better made cars in my opinion. Come on, a car that's got active yaw control! Not likely to find a scooby with one of those. Must admit tho, i do like the sound of a flat four or flat six. Scooby's sound like they're a rally car, evo's are a rally car! Nigh on anyway! If any of ya know manchester at all, surely rusholme has got to be one of the highest 'i've got a chavved up scooby, evo or civic' areas in the country. It's mad. Back home evo's are cool, porsches are special. Manchester, porsches are ten a penny! Regularly see murcialago's and ferries, even vanquishs aren't that rare! One lasting thought, if ya owned an Enzo Ferrari, would ya sit in a huge queue waxing countless amounts of petrol with a sh!tty micra blasting out music behind ya or would ya rather be out making the most of your £300,000+ car! yep it's true!

BLOODUK...oh how wrong u are my fellow friend! (excuse me as ive just got in from being out for a drink) (excellent) \:D/ but u have it alllll wrong mate, that unique sound, that gorgeous HUM, when ive described it to a mate, its always been...'ever been behind a tvr? and turned ur radio off and put ur window down??'....well thats what its like being behind a gently modified scooby with a de-cat jap exhaust! popin crackin and burbling along, music to my ears!!! they certainly dont all sound the same, and i cant say there common where i live, only ones i see are the bug eyes (wrong shape lights IMO) anyway point is they sound luvvvv----lyyyy!!! well they do to me anyway 8) tbh its 70% the sound they can produce from their boxer engine thats attracted me to them, not to mention the gorgeous body shape....the bonet air vent, classic! cant nock that! (unless ur queer or sumfin) lol neway ive got a right thing for them right now...which is dangerous to my wallet....but f**k it! yes id preffer an evo, can i afford an evo?....no....not when it comes to insurance! can i afford a scooby? YES...can i afford the insurance...probably lol

neway im gona sod off! chat to u 2moro :rambo: :afro:

My old house mate bought one and I wasn't impressed with it at all. The interior rattled like a childs toy and there were a few other minor problems with the engine (easily sorted but enough to give you a headache). It put me right off scooby's.

Then last year my g/f (back then she had a Rev2), said she was going to buy a scoob as she always wanted one #-o (she had previously owned GT4's too).

The search began and ended after 3.5 months.

You got to be really careful and thorough when looking. Virtually all the cars we saw were a bag of nails even though most owners were club members and thought their car was better than everyone elses. I found scooby owners were lying about the condition of their cars (maybe they were blinded by "love" for it). You phone them up and they say it's in "showroom condition" "you won't find better" "engine and body immaculate - not a mark"
You get there to view the car and there's door dings, keying, unwashed, no history.

The one we eventually bought was a Terzo (ltd edition UK turbo - they made 333 of them to celebrate Burns's win in the rally. Many consider this to be the only "proper" ltd edition scooby. as there are a few "limited's" out there). It wasn't owned by a club member and it took two months for the owner to realise their asking price was too high and to drop it down to within our budget. My g/f is well chuffed and reckons it's the best car she has ever owned. I don't mind it at all 8)

DIY servicing is a dog because of the Boxter engine layout 8-[

Don't look at your monthly fuel bill - far far worse than an MR2 tubby :eye:

i wouldn't go that far, i am not totally anti-scooby, and to tell you the honest truth if i had a family i would probably buy one, something to get the kids in with the prams and what not with a bit of power to go.
if it was me i wouldn't bother with 1 til i was a little older (now 24).

i must admit they have a very distinctive sound which i can't fault, but they are other cars out there...

i really do like the P1's tho, its got the right number of doors, 2.

I guarantee you if you come up against a jap WRX or STI on a b road they'll hand you your a*se. Classics do look good, sound good and move very fast. Litterally the only problem is Chav image and the wrong sort of attention they get.

Check this

The ‘standard’ 265 bhp Impreza STi is quoted with a 0-60 mph time of 5.1 seconds and a top speed of 151.5 mph.

so the sti is standard at 265BHP+
The WRX is standard at 300BH+

- The vehicle decided upon, after plenty of research, was the MR2 TURBO. ...
Jap official figures are 0-60 of 5.2 seconds other figures state 5.4 thats only 0.1 - 0.3 slower than the standard sti scooby , so if you imagine the mr2 turbo running with downpipe , exhaust and at 1bar of boost probably under 5.0 0 - 60 For modifcations both the sti and mr2 turbo can be increased to that beyond the wrx depending on money at hand O:)

rev1 & 2

5.7 sec 0-60

and i say again on the b roads a classic WRX will drive away from you. The 4wd can generate more grip, they are also light cars about 100kg minimum lighter than your car.

Ever been on track with a classic WRX?
