The Wight Weekender 25/26/27 Aug *UPDATE PAGE 3*

Post by anna »

As dates clash with the IOW classic car meet, why not do a social weekend? The IOW is a great venue for this and often plays host to rallies.
I have been in contact with Pure on the OC, and he has had pretty much the same idea, so lets make a good social of it, and meet new people!

Copied from Pure:

The Wight Weekender
25th 26th 27th August BANK HOLIDAY WEEKEND

This is going to be a two to three day event in August, invites have been sent out to both OC and IMOC

It will feature:

Driving
Beach BBQ
inter cub crazy golf challenge
good ol' British summer fun

We will be camping both Saturday and Sunday nights in order to make he most of the weekend, first camp site will be near to the ferry for Friday/sat night drinking session.the second will be on the other side of the island ..hopefully near a beach. We have a fantastic route set out thanks to Anna (off of Imoc fame) who knows the island well.

I am attempting to gain group discounts for both campsites and the ferry
Please note this event will cost some money!

This will be a great social event and a great preamble to JAE,

If you wish to attend please can i have your name/passenger name and if you want to go over late on Friday or very early on Saturday.

Once i have negotiated discounts on ferry etc i may need deposits.

So come on names please this should be great.

double arrgggg!

Is it do'able to go straight from the midnight run? would be tempted to do it on the way down if we do stick to the 1/2/3.
Would also mean cheap fare on ferry if we go in the middle of the night.
What time is the midnight run finishing?

Other than that, is the bank holiday weekend (the weekend before - last weekend in may) any better?

Midnight run finishes at 3am, I could put a few people up at my place and then join the IOW thingy. :-k

Give me some incentive to finish the decorating.

Midnight runis held on Friday 01 June at.... midnight

Run is expected to last some 2 - 2.5 hours maybe a bit longer.

To go from there to IOW would mean most of us arriving at the ferry at about 5am on Saturday 02 June.

Given that a lot of us will have been up since about 6am on Friday 01 June it will not be easy for us.

Certainly most of the morning on the Saturday would then be spent sleeping.

Any ideas what this will cost? It's now looking more and more like I can't do JAE this year ( ) thanks to Uni Supervisor (  ) so would like to do this one instead so that I get to one at least... But I need to keep an eye on the budget too...

Poor luck on JAE :(

Costs at a bit of a guess:
Ferry return: £40ish per car
2 nights camping: £20? (might be able to do something about this)
Entry to crazy golf for interclub crazy golf wars: £10
Food/drink: well, however much you want to spend..! must include obligatory Fish/chips/icecream/IOW rock.

Other activities: Might do some windsmurfing if the wind/tides are right. Depending on how many of us there are, I might take my kit over there, and allow people to use it, but that relies on getting it over there before June (cos lets face it, the 2 isn't up to carrying masts/sails/boards!). Alternatively there is a windsurfing/kitesurfing place but it will cost some money.
Have also done paragliding over there - also weather dependent, but if people fancy it, I can look into it. I cheated and only paid £10 when Soton uni subsidised the rest :thumleft: but usually £100 or so.
If people *must* have an alum bay coloured sand thingy, that will cost a couple of quid.

Any other activities people want to have a look at?
(Oh, and activities are opional ofcourse, but you will be expected to take part in crazy golf for the honour of IMOC! ;))

Seeing as the June date conflicts with everything! How about the August Bank holiday weekend?

Might be troublesome on the ferries if you try to go at a sensible hour, but we'd plan to take a late night/early morning crossing.

So - who is up for it? or have we picked another clashtastic date!
