Discussion and technical advice the SW20 MR2. 3S-GTE, 3S-GE, 3S-FE etc
Anything and everything to do with maintenance, modifications and electrical is in here for the Mk2.
hey all, ive been seriously concidering getting a WRX sti 97+ and if i can try to get my hands on a Type R and was wondering what you all had to say about the cars performance/reputation. ive been on the scoobynet forums trying to build my knowledge up before i buy, looking to swap around august time, im trying to find out what insurance group the type R is in, im assuming 20, and if so ill probably have to say no to that but i know the WRX jap imports are group 17 which is fine. any opinions welcome good or bad.
Karl
what hard to find and unpredictable? haha
an evo would be gr8 but there all group 20 insurance and tend to cost more the WRX appeals to me a lot as its group 17 insurance and i strongly desire a turbo, and a change from the MR2, i like the practicality of them as well.
Karl
uk scooby turbos are group 17 mate, i think you will have problems trying to insure a wrx import at the same price, you tried getting a few quotes yet?
Jay
I hate scoobies i really do , they sound like they are farting and gurrgling... too many of them and some of the headlights look horrible , id rather get an evo atleast i dont see many of them... but scoobies becoming as common as the corsa
not yet...i think adrian flux are fed up with me asking for qoutes, they must have a list a mile long, from evos to supras lol, but the scooby is one i havent looked into yet, mainly as they cant predict the NCB ill get in june, they can only qoute me on the price it would be today.
the subaru's are getting a little common, but are a good car with the turbo and 4wd. but like the other guys said, i would go for an evo iv or something, much more respect in 1 of those with the same amount of power, i think both are around the 280hp mark
Karl wrote:maybe thats why u dislike them? can u fault them on performance/reliablity tho as im more interested in that side of things!
possibly havent driven could be the perfect drive, but it just gives people the wrong image... always seeing the odd scooby being driven dangerously through residential roads , all sound the same , always try to race me even the slow ones and they dont even have 200bhp only the top range ones would give mine a thrashing.
Still really id go with the other suggestions save up for an evo
i saw one at the bluewater meet and they look really nice
edit : pete h agreed
problem is my age, group 20 insurance is just a no-no unless im gona spend 4k on insurance. im 21 and when the time comes to buy one ill hopefully have 2 years NCB, held the licence for over 3 years tho. and have 3 points
was concidering the max driver course as adrian flux take a big % off
i love the evo 5 & 6...gr8 cars, shame there group 20
yes lovely cars! and great value...however i couldnt do that, my best mate is inlove with them, all my knowledge of them has come from him and its 'his' car now, i cudnt buy one even if i wanted too
The WRX sti is group 20 without a doubt, has chav appeal and a bad rep for getting stolen.
The imports are infinately harder to insure than the the UK versions unfortunately. The standard UK turbo 2000 was only 210bhp as apposed to the 240bhp of the WRX
