The MR2 Beaulieu Rally 9th-10th June

Post by Grendel »

The MR2 Beaulieu Rally is the run to the New Forest in Hampshire.

Continuing on the success of the MR2 Brighton runs we have changed the route and extended the run over a weekend. All MR2s are invited, any Mk, the more the better. Whether a club member or not we welcome you to join the rally for the whole weekend or just the Saturday.

The MR2 Beaulieu Rally will start with a run on the Saturday morning at the Pease Pottage Motorway Services on the M23 (J11) and will finish in the main arena at the famous Beaulieu Motor Museum via the A272, M3, M27 and finally through the New Forest. There will be a pit stop on the way at the west bound Motorway Services on the M27 (between J4 & J3) so that you will be able to join the convoy if you do not wish to start at Pease Pottage.

On arrival at the Beaulieu Motor Museum we will be ushered into the main hardstanding arena adjacent to museum entrance and we will put on a static display so that the public can meet us and look over our cars. If you have any display items, club banners flags etc, please bring them along. There is a reduced admission fee of £10 per person payable as we go into the arena and admits you to all the Beaulieu attractions including the Motor Museum, Palace House and Gardens, Beaulieu Abbey and the Exhibition of Monastic Life plus many Rides and Drives. You are free to wonder around all afternoon.

The Beaulieu Motor Museum is open from 10.00am. Individuals can go into the main arena anytime after it opens but the main convoy of MR2s are not expected to arrive until lunch time.

We will leave the Beaulieu Motor Museum late afternoon and head to the camp site for our overnight stay which is in the grounds of the Sir Walter Tyrrell Pub at Brook, located just north of Junction 1 of the M27. Alternatively, Hotel acommodation is available at the “New Forest Lodge Hotel” at Landford, approx 4 miles away.

You must book the Hotel accommodation direct and in advance, The sooner the better to ensure a reserved room. Campers are also advised to book in advance with the pub as they will reserve a corner for us to ensure we can camp together but they need to get the number of campers. All the detrails are below.

On the Sunday, every one will meet at the east bound Motorway Services on the M27 ((between J3 & J4) for breakfast and coffee where another run will be organised.

SATURDAY

10.30am Departure time
Main MR2 convoy leaves the Pease Pottage Services on M23 (J11).

Comment:
Please allow to get there by at least 10.00am to give us enough time to hand out directions.

12.00 Arrival – 12.30pm Departure time
Main MR2 convoy pit stop at the west bound Motorway Services on M27 between junctions 4 and 3.

1.15 Arrival – 5.30pm Departure time

Comment:
The Beaulieu Motor Museum is open from 10.00am but as you can see it is anticipated that the main convoy will not arrive until 1.15pm.

As you enter the car park, follow signs for “Toyota MR2” (Through a no entry sign) where an official will be waiting to take your money and direct you into the arena. Pay on entry, £10 per person.

There is a café on site but it is pricey.

6.00-6.30pm Arrival – Morning Departure
Venues for our over night stay.

Comment:

You are strongly advised to phone the pub to reserve a pitch. Tell them you are with the MR2 club and they will allocate us all together in the camp site.

Hotel:
New Forest Lodge Hotel. Landford. Post code: SP5 2ED
Hotel reception Tel: 01794 390999
There is an indian restuarant attached to the hotel.

Comment:
Cost is £50-£75 per room bed and breakfast, depending on type of room.

You are strongly advised to book a room at the hotel as soon as possible to avoid disappointment. As they cannot hold rooms without a booking.

SUNDAY

As we awake from a good nights sleep under canvas we’ll all be feeling hungry and ready for a hearty breakfast. So in your own time make your way to the east bound Motorway Services on the M27 (between junctions 3 and 4) for your refreshments.

Those in the Hotel can enjoy a full english breakfast before departing for the Motorway Services.

11.00am Departure time
Main MR2 convoy leaves the Motorway Services on M27 for a drive around the local area. The destination is yet to be decided but it is anticipated it will end by lunchtime

Definately up for this. I used to do the same thing when I was in the Mini Owners Club. :thumleft:

The run through the New Forest on the way there is epic! Watch out for the hump back bridge though.

Rude not to come really :D

Grendel, what route are you thinking of taking through the forest? M27/Cadnam/Lyndhurst-right turn after the Ferrarri dealership at the Lyndhurst Park Hotel/Beaulieu?? That lyndhurst to Beaulieu stretch is pretty fast and quiet, has some nice bends in it too 8)

Sounds good to me. If my car is working (it better be by then!) and I am free that weekend then I'll come along.

Sounds like a good idea.

If I do come along I would probably just come for the Saturday and head on home in the evening. I would have to meet you chaps there as I am coming from the other direction.

The run has been sorted but now we need an idea about how many will be camping, or staying at the Hotel.
I will probably be camping but we need more people to confirm whether they will be staying overnight, or not!
Then we can give the pub a rough idea .
