I'll be there the night before to help set up, cook and eat the food. I'll be competing at the 3rd round of Time Attack the day before so will be coming down from Scotland to join you. No rest for the wicked

And Redline magazine are looking to put together a feature of TOTB cars, I was sent this via the TOTB organisers....

Our new look issue is launched 31 May and we're aiming for an older, performance based market.

With this in mind it'd be great if you could contact the TOTB reps on our behalf, to let them know we're looking for the best performance cars in the UK.

They don't need to have any particular modifications, we just want some
fast cars, from hot-hatches, to big power Jap stuff - even the mad Granada.

We have our own Datron timing gear, so we're looking to test the cars either at Santa Pod for 1/4 miles times etc, or at an airfield for top speeds.
No dates, yet, but we'll try and give as much notice as possible for a weekday shoot.

Seriously though Mitch, what are the criteria for getting into the team? My car's nearly ready to get some decent times in now, but what sort of times are we looking for? 11's minimum? I see that as a decent enough benchmark.

Lets face it, if you or your car aren't capable of times like that, then you really oughtn't be competing. I think we really should be entering a team to present a decent challenge this year, and by the sounds of it, we're well on the way...

Probably have to agree on the proven times route this year...it would almost be better to have a smaller team than to include newly built cars again. Mind you things can and do go wrong on the day though.

I haven't set a specific cut off because I'm hoping for the full 10 places this year and want to fill them all - ideally cars in the 11's as you've already said but a low 12 isn't going to make the MR2s look silly, it's still very respectable, especially if you look at the times the other RWD cars are likely to be putting in.

As I've said before the MR2s aren't going to win but we can make an impression and shock a few people with very good times on the 1/4, handling and possibly the high speed. People underestimate the little Toyota MR2, I'd just like to see us beat the Supras

I'd rather have a team of 10 cars running 12's than a "team" with one car running an 11 - it's more about a fun day out for you lot and an opportunity to take part in a big event like this - I'd be chuffed to bits with ten 10 second cars of course

the competition is hotting up eh - need to crack on with the build! There needs to be a good variation not just out and out drag, they need to be able to corner too. Top speed is not so controllable i guess but im trying to get a long 5th gear so i can get some good top end

Apparently the GTROC have pulled out, good news for the smaller people who lack the bottomless budgets

Following Chris's post on the TOTB IV thread, we can confirm that the GTR Register is withdrawing from this year's TOTB. We have one fundamental issue which we have not been able to resolve with Chris and that is team selection. Since it's inception, 5 years ago, we have won the team event 3 times and had the individual champion 4 times. We have been by far the most successful team in the event. We have always had the 'privilege' of being able to select our own team and, until now, we have had no external pressures put upon this selection process.

It was decided that the team selection for 2007 would be a joint process with the organiser of the event, Chris. We believe that it is unheard of that an event organiser (of any event) has a hand in individual competitor selection within a team. Despite many weeks of negotiations, reasoning, offers and discussions, we finally reached a stalemate whereby that privilege was no longer negotiable and had been withdrawn from us. No other team which is entering or ever has entered TOTB has had such a draconian measure enforced upon them and we have unanimously decided to withdraw from the event this year.

There are others issues, such as safety, which have been discussed fruitlessly for years but our main reason for withdrawing is explained above. We would like to extend our best wishes to all those competing this year and hope that it is successful for them and above all, a safe event.

Seems a strange situation for them to be but as said above it just means the MR2s move up the rankings

Absolutely, they have always accepted entries from individuals, tuners etc
