[Mk2] [NA] Advice needed for a newcomer please!

Post by ferrit »

Hi all,

I've been a bit of a lurker the past few weeks, as i've been looking for guidance in searching for a 2nd hand MR2.

I've done a fair bit of research, and am looking towards a MK2 91-94. The only thing that really confuses me is the model numbers ( if you will ) ie - G, GT, G Ltd, GTS etc.

I pretty much know that the GTS is the turbo derivative, but what's the difference between say a GT, and the G Limited ? I'm assuming the G Ltd is an import, but is there any difference with the engine ? I'm wary of picking up a coupe (120bhp) when i'm really looking for a bit more power!

Any advice appreciated.

Cheers.

The GT and the G-LTD are both inports, the GT being the turbo and the G-LTD being an NA.

GT & GTS are turbos, the GTS had everything the GT had as standard but as optional extras.

The UK 3SFE has 120 bhp engine but can be distinguished by:

No spoiler
No fog lights
Speedo goes up to 140 and rev counter to 8K RPM.

Hope that helps.

The G is also an import, the Japanese poverty spec NA :)
(but thankfully non of the imports got the 3S-FE engine)

Just to add confusion and break your brain, the UK NA is often known as 'GT' too ](*,)

I think if you buy a Rev 3 NA they only used one lump- thinks its around 160bhp, 3SGE....so to my knowledge you'll be safe buying a rev 3 and wont end up with the 115-120bhp version...?!

(other than the beams 200bhp)
