[All] [Generic] cheapest place for insurance?

Post by razorsharp192 »

just had a quote with tesco (who i'm with at the mo), it'll be £130 per month for fully comp (i'm 25 with 4 years no claims, but 3 points for speeding on my license from 2003)

the car i'm getting (mk2 mr2 turbo) has got a boost controller on it, other than that its pretty standard. where's a good (and when i say good i mean cheap) place to get insurance?

I very much doubt Tesco will insure you mate. I had a quote with Tesco last summer for my GT-S (I was with them at the time already), it was very competitive in price. However I rang back about a week later with the quote ref number just hoping to confirm it etc and they told me that they did not cover the JDM MR2 Turbo. So make sure that a) they are fully aware it is a JDM Turbo model, and b) get them to put something in writing!!

For the record after ringing about 14 insurance companies, Elephant were by far the cheapest. Im 22, 3 points, 1 accident not my fault, and modified... Ring them up though rather than bother with the online system, as from my experience most of the database systems don't propperly classify the MR2 turbo propperly... :thumleft:

nice one, i'll give those 2 a try, i've had one of £130 per month with tesco (roughly £1500 a year, £800 excess), spoke to Sky insurance today, they quoted me £896 a year (£75 a month) and £350 excess! so far theyre the best but i'll give swift and elephant a call

well just rang elephant and when i mentioned the boost controller they told me they wouldnt insure me! (and that was before i told the points i've got!)

just on the phone to swinton, well i was until i got cut off!

right, giving up on swinton for today, they're experiencing technical difficulties apparently.

just spoke to a place called Alan and Alan High Performance Group, their quote was £1400 with £450 excess. need to double check with Sky that they're definately doing it on a turbo model, just it seems pretty damn cheap

a place called the Policy Shop are calling me back too

rang swift and got "there's no one available to take you call at the moment blah blah"

Personally, I’d always recommend going through a specialist broker such as Allen & Allen / Hyperformance / Prestige Insurance (all the same company by the way) - if only for the reason that they will understand what you are trying to insure and have negotiated discounted rates with Insurance Companies.

It’s always important to realise that cheapest is not the best – an off the shelf provider such as some of those mentioned above may offer a more competitive premium, but they will usually fail to understand exactly what you have there.

This is all well and good until you have to claim – then watch the fireworks start!

Kind Regards
Baruc.
