[Mk2] [NA] colour magic polish

Post by simo1973 »

I have been useing turtle wax colour magic on my car, my cars is red so its the red one i use, i think it does a good job as my spoiler can go a little pink after a while, the polish does bring it back.
only thing is it will only last a few washes then need doing again(hard work).
Is anything better to keep it red and shiney??????? :thumleft:

Buy some pdi (pre delivery inspection) polish from www.valetpro.co.uk. Its really easy to apply and take off plus its only around £16 for 5 litres. Its great and as good as autoglym providing you apply it regularly (every 2 weeks). Also another good trick is to either drop a cap full of t-cut into your bucket of water, or mix a small amount of t-cut with your wax as this will bring out the shine easier and it will last longer meaning your spoiler wont turn pink for a few months at least. :D

Sorry for being dense - do you mean put T-Cut in the water you're using to wash the car with? Does this do anything to the windows? :-s

Sorry I should have been more specific. This is only for the metalwork, not the windows or plastics. I have found that it helps to restore the shine of the car without having to resort to an hour of hard t-cutting or waxing. I have used this method on loads of old transit vans. Just put a cap full of t-cut in the shampoo and apply to the main body of the car only. I wouldn't bother using this method unless your car is pretty faded.
If I were you I would try this out first on your spoiler as this is the only area on your car that is fading?
One more thing, what shampoo are you using, a was based one like turtlewax shampoo will make waxing much easier.

My red mkII stays brighter for much longer when i put on a sealant after i have polished/waxed it. i just use autoglym extra gloss protection (i think thats what its called), and it says looking a deep red for about a month. When i first got it i just used t-cut colour restorer (red), and it looked ace for about a week, then got dull again before starting to look a little pink in places, particuarly the rear panel between the lights. I think cleaning the car after polishing it undoes a lot of the hard work, so i just hose it down now, no shampoo or anything.

Go to halfords and buy a tub of Meguaires deep crystal pure polish (step no 2,burgandy bottle). Its unlike any other product in Halfords or your local car shops. The secret is its loaded with oils that feed the paint rather like when you treat leather. After years of standing in the sun the oils and pigments have dried out of the paintwork.Waxing a faded car only puts a false shine on it.Under the wax the paint is still pretty lifeless and dead. Apply as many coats of the pure polish as you like.Use a little at a time and rub it well into the paint until it seems to be drying out-ideally with a polishing sponge. Once youve got the paint looking really vibrant again apply a polymer based product over it. You can use Autoglym extra gloss protection but i dont really like it as it gives a slightly cloudy/bloomed finish. My choice would be Meguaires gold class wax or the nxt tech wax.

Only problem is,once youve done the spoiler as above you will have to do the whole car in the same way such will be the vibrant, wet look gloss!

When washing do not use car washes of any description. The TFR that they use will dull unlaquered cars and strip the wax off.Always use a good quality wash and wax in a bucket, again meguires gold class wash and wax is the best out there i believe.

I use the meguires tyre shine. I was going to buy the wax but I wasnt sure as it is a 3 step system and I didnt have the cash for the 3 products. I have seen the meguires carnuba wax and I think its step 3 product and that is the best stuff you can put on a car. I looked at a professional car valeting site that specialize in Lambos and Ferrari's and they sell a carnuba based wax for £300 a tub! It is very good stuff though.
Heres another tip, if you wax your car once a month and wash every week, use cold water and hot water takes off the wax coating, using cold water will make waxing much easier when you come to do it. :D

Hi mate,i wouldnt use the step 3 Carnauba wax.Ive got a tub here somewhere if you want it FOC? Rather than using the step 3 the gold class over the other two steps gives miles better results. From what i can see,the step 3 carnauba content is very low. The gold class on its own works very well if you only want to buy one product.

The 300 quid stuff you speak of is Zymol. There is nothing in it that makes it special from a 10 quid tub of carnauba paste wax from a certain company in the UK believe it or not. Your paying for the packaging, the name 'Zymol' and if i recall correctly, they will refil your tub FOC for life?

What's wrong with autoglym?

Note: This is a serious question and not some attempt at a flamewar. :)

I would love to know how much this stuff actually costs to produce. I bet it is under £20.

I use Autoglym deep shine for dark coloured cars.

I wont use it at the front thinking about chips which will show up white. Colour magic for front dark green! \:D/

Autoglym is good but way overpriced. The pdi stuff I mentioned earlier is only £16 for a 5ltr tub. It comes off way easier than autoglym and wont leave white marks on plastic. The shine is just as good if not better than autoglym plus it takes half the time to apply and buff off. Check it out on www.valetpro.co.uk :D
