first 2 are the same thing really, they are both saying you'll be over the limit on that empty carriageway, so 100% speeders so far.

Particularly like the 'Stating the obvious' one.

GLOL!

Oh i see. Wording in a poll is critical. I clicked the second one just because it was stating the obvious. I saw it as yes if i'm above 70 obviously i'm speeding. Do i care about that? Well thats another question.

Is it me, or does the last one not make sense?

;)

"If No ones around no one but yourself is in danger"

But how would you ever know this? There could be someone broken down on the hard shoulder ahead, or (in rare circumstances) some loon on a moped or something.

If you drive to the safe speed for the conditions then if you can't see ahead you'd have slowed down to take into account the possible hazard. If you could see them then there would be people around and slow down if they were a hazard.

Please bare in mind that the 70mph speed limit was set in an era when most cars couldnt do 70, had narrow cross ply tyres and drums all round.

Bit confused over the choices there> :?
If the 2nd option means you shouldnt be speeding over 70mph then I agree....then again I would do. :)

I'm as confused as hell with this 'poll', are those questions? Statements?

What are you asking here?

True, but the number of cars has increased...therefore more chance of an accident. General driver education hasn't improved either - that's obvious - so 70mph is a reasonable speed until this issue is resolved (i.e. never).

Choices are too ambiguous.

The most sensible option would be;

I realise 70mph is the posted limit, but i accept the consequences of exceeding that speed.

Unfortunately, it's the law of the land and that's the end of it. To break the speed limit you should be willing to take the fine and points if/when you are caught. Doesn't matter if the speed limit seems stupid or out of place in those circumstances, thats the limit.

Also be aware that the posted limit is not necessarily the sensible speed limit for the road/conditions.

It's a never ending argument.

Autobahns, less accidents than UK motorways quote from Mclaren re: the F1, "we have a german customer that clears 200mph everyday on his commute to work according to the datalogger"

speed kills my a*se.

well this is a hard one to decide, its so tempting to speed when no one is around on the motorway and you do tend to think its safe and its ok to do so becoz you are only indangering yourself (providing you have no passengers) :-k

but if you do crash and get seriously hurt or worse even die.. its your family and friends that you have hurt and its not nice for the emergency services to have to deal with horrific car accidents that otherwise could of been avoided. [-X

Perhaps Germans are more aware of those around them and are generally better drivers than the idiots in the UK? I guess they expect quick cars on the Autobahn so use their mirrors more?

has any one ever attempted to drive at 70mph on the motorways/ carriageways? Occasionally when i'm low on fuel i pull into the near side lane and keep it at 65 - 70mph, you'll soon see your the slowest car on the road, even the lorrys will try and overtake on the downhills.

I normally drive at 70 on the motorway. Motorways to me are boring and i've tried driving at daft speeds and it doesn't really make a significant difference timewise. So i just sit there usually trying to avoid the outside lane if at all poss.

70 seems fairly good for fuel economy too. Sometimes i'll cruise at 75 if i'm going for it. ;)

I don't think that fact is true actually.. I heard we have the safest motorways in europe.... statistically speaking...

Anyways i think 70mph limit is good.... it means that generally people are doing 80 odd mph most of the time... if the limit was 80 then people would do 90 - 100 all the time... just my 2p and Speed does kill, I had a crash bout 3 years back doing under 30 the car was a write off and I was lucky to walk out without injury... my chest hit the steering wheel but it wasnt so bad... If i was doing 10 - 20 mph more i would probably have been dead!! :-s
