Jacking up / Axle stands

Post by jamief »

Ive bought a trolley jack and 2 axle stands, as I intend on doing some suspension work and dont fancy the car tipping over;

If Im jacking up the back of the car (using the jack point just in front of the rear wheel), where the hell do I put the axle stand? I put the jack between the notches, but i dont think its safe to put the axle stands beside this (i.e. a couple inches to the left or right of this)??

Cheers!

It actually doesn't matter a mega amount if you are not exactly under the notches.

Way i do it is jack the car up under the rear gearbox/engine mount. Then just put the axle stands under the jacking points either side. Quick and easy though i normally need a spare person just to lift the car slightly under the rear arch so i can pop the stand under as the doesn't quite lift level due to the transverse layout.

Don't forget to chock the front wheels or check the position of the stands as you lower the car. Cos it'll roll forward as you lower it, resulting in tipped axle stands. :|
