Cheers Lauren!! :D

It's just that I was told you shouldn't do it for up to 6 weeks as the paint is still soft? :-k

Well as you know i recently had my car out of the bodyshop and i specifically asked the guys when i picked the car up whether or not i have to do anything different because of the new paint etc, so exactly the same concerns as you. They said no, just wash and clean it as normal.

I guess Paul Woods is going to give a much better answer than me though as he does this for a living.

WOAH!!! Easy Tiger! =;
From what i remember you ARE best to wait 6 weeks before fully Waxing the bodywork to allow the paint to "breathe" and harden!

yeah i heard this too, especialy if they have used a better laquer or more of it, the paint will still be soft so i would also avoid tearing down the motorway at full chat until its nice n hard!

Godangit, I just waxed my car last Saturday.

I'm going back down to the bodyshop on Saturday to get the guy to sort a few things out so any advice would be welcome..

i m pretty sure its only cellulose paint that takes weeks to fully harden, if it was done with two pack or similar should be fully hard in 12 hours at the most.

not many use cellulose much now, not as hardwearing

just dont wax cellulose straight away as you trap in the thinners from the paint

Once the paint is hard, i.e when you get it back from the bodyshop it's hard. There is no "hardening period"

Wax away my friend!

I see this post is pretty much closed so sorry for adding to it but....
Your ok to polish the car after 3 -5 days.
I have polished a car 3 days after painting, a week should be ok mate.
I depends on 2 things, how much paint was put on the car and was the paint baked on in an oven.
If baked then your ok after 24 - 48 hrs.
If it was not baked and there is alot of paint was applied then I'd wait for a while as the paint will take longer to dry in these conditions.

I light wax won't have hurt much, I'd hold off on compound paste or t-cut for a little while.

Main thing is don't worry, you won't have damaged the paint

Cant see the need for waxing straight away mate......it should be gleaming after coming out from the bodyshop. I wash my car about once a week (if possible) so if you wait a week anyway then it will all be cool.

Cheers for the info mate, I only used Meguiars and not a compound paste. :D

It was! But after I washed it, I thought I might as well go the whole hog and wax it as well to protect the new paint.
