Yep, Roger Hole has just done this - was chatting to him about the trip he's just done to the Nurburgring in it. He likes it - says it feels similar to the MK2 Turbo he had and is as quick/quicker - but he's managed to warp the front brakes on it after a weekend's worth of use on track. (££££s)

Personally - I test drove one and didn't like the lack of feedback from the car. The Mk3 is much better in that respect - add a Turbocharger and you're easily as quick with better feedback ..

I know a bloke from the mk1 club who sold his mk1 and bought an s2000,he was dissapointed with it and has now sold it and wants another mk1.
I know this might not be the case with everyone but you have to consider that you'll probably be paying £15,000 for the Honda but could pick up a decent mk1 for less than £2,000.Up to you try a mk1 first and see what you think!

I've gone from a Mk2 Turbo to a Honda AV6 ( Accord V6 Vtec ).

Well not strickly, I'm lazy old man now and prefer creature comforts - but i still have the turbo. :clown:

A friend of mine tried one for a while. He has previously had half a dozen MR2's including a 450hp track car & current a 1998 beams edition converted to a turbo version. Anyway he commented that is just as fast as the Type III turbo MR2's however it needs to be driven in a completly different manner etc. they handle REALLY well, I'd sooner have one than a Spyder MRS.

Cheers

i saw an 05 s2000 parked up the other day. i thought it looked awesome and imo photos you see on autotrader etc simply dont do it justice. there is also a cool review in autocar this issue which compares an s2000 to a 350z cabrio and a crossfire. the s came second to the z but i think i would choose the s2000 over the z any day of the week.

there is something cool about seeing an s2000 on the road that makes me feel the same way as when i used to see mk2 mr2's back in the late 90's when
they were still fairly uncommon.
decisions decisions...

if i was to replace the MR2 and had bit more cash than i do now i'd go S2000 or 350Z

350Z would probably have better low down torque which i like to have, s2000 probably needs it's nuts revved hard!

both would be black or a bold blue of course :mrgreen:

Performance of the Honda S2000 and the Nissan 350Z compared with the MR2 Turbo.

Standard stock 0-60mph:
S2000 = 6.2 seconds
350Z = 5.9 seconds
REV 3-on MR2 Turbo = between 5.2 or 5.9 seconds

Standard stock Top Speed and BHP:
S2000 = 150mph (237bhp)
350Z = 155mph (276bhp) I would imagine this too be a much heavier car?
REV 3-on MR2 Turbo = 149mph or 155mph (241bhp)

Figures are from TOPGEAR mag etc.. I sure there are some better sources but to be honest theres not a great deal in it really :-k

Technical figures may look better hear and there, but I have driven all three cars and they do seem very different in handling and general road manners but not one of them felt the quickest really - just my opinion though :lol:

I have a friend with an S2000 on a '52 plate. The earlier versions are a little tale happy apparently and he's proved this by spinning his twice on a motorway. Admittedly he's not been on a track day or anything but the first time was after raining slightly after it had been really dry so lots of grease on the road. Second time he hit standing water in the fast lane at about 75 (Nor really, his girlfriend was in the car also and he doesn't speed when she's in the car). The car aquaplaned and found the rear coming past his right shoulder.

The second revision sorted some suspension tweaks and put bigger wheels on there too.

Richie.

I work for Honda. But I only beard around brand new cars, straight off the boat from Japan or up from the factory at Swindon.

S2000 IMO seems very unstable at speed. However, I'd buy one just for the engine. The noise from 7-10,000 RPM is fantastic. :mrgreen:

The workshop manual states the 2 litre F20 at 243hp, but the Honda Racing guys
tell me, 300hp is possible with a Mugen ECM update, intake and zorst.

I would check with a Dealer on serviceing costs, oil jets can be expensive and time consuming. So mileage is a definate consideration.

The S2000 would win for me as its newer, N/A and looks stunning. Shame its a bit cramped tho.

Treat it wih respect as you would an MR2 and you can have just as much fun, if not more with an S2000. :twisted:

i like the sound and looks of the 350Z, saw one today, black with the new nismo kit. damn fine looking motor and the 3.5 litre probably has some nice low down torque which i like rather than revving the nuts off like you would in an S2000 to get moving, i'd have either if i was offered them mind :)
