[Mk2] [NA] Warning light

Post by jon_84 »

Hello again. I hope some body can help. When driving along the Engine Compartment Cooling Fan Warning Light comes on. We have checked the engine bay teperature sensor but that seems absolutely fine, has anybody ever had the same problem or a similar experience???

any help would be great!

Does the fan ever start? Does it start if you unplug the sensor? Does it start if you sit in traffic for a while?

No it doesnt start at all. We tested the continuity of the relays and they are all fine. The fan worked when we attached it to a power supply. Im at a loose end as everything else seems to be okay.

unplug the sensor and put the ignition on....the fan should come on constantly, if it does then you need a new sensor and if it doesn't you need a fan!

I have done that but the fan still doesnt seem to want to kick in. Like i said the fan worked fine when it was hooked up to a power supply but other than that there isnt any life.

Is the relay actually working? Even a burnt out relay can pass the continuity test :|

As mentioned earlier follow the logical step, if fan works on separate power eg battery, Fan is OK, if sensor is removed and working fan does not work trace the wirings/relays for faults
good luck :thumleft:

Exactly what that man said :)

If the coil of the relay is ok, it doesn't mean that the contacts are ok!! The relay could be switching on, but current won't be passing through the possibly burnt out contacts.
