Congratulations Toyota F1!!!!

Post by MR2Mania »

Guys and gals,

I hope you'll all join me in congratulating Toyota F1 in finally getting their cars up to the front of the field. Two races in a row and they're on the podium, so this is no accident. They've really done it! :D

Let's just hope that they get a race win soon, so that they finally launch the monster cars they've been developing. I've heard several rumours of a new Supra, and a Lexus-badged top-of-the-line model aimed directly at the Porsche 911, with a V10 engine producing 500bhp!

Toyota have put an amazing effort in so far this season, and a pleasure to watch an F1 race without those flamin' prancing horse cars on the podium every time.

Funny thing is, about a year ago I was talking to the Parts Manager in Toyota Loughborough about Mr T's performance in F1. "One day, we'll win the championship" he said. I laughed. [goes to cupboard for large slice of humble pie].

=D>
Mk2 NA Rev1 -*- Mk2 Turbo Rev2 -*- Mk1 NA -*- Mk2 Turbo Rev 3 = all gone!

Mate, you should have known that Toyota would be putting all their efforts into it. They've proved they were a dominating force in WRC (they won hands down, got banned, came back a year later and STILL wiped the floor with everyone!), and that's why they came into F1 - to prove a point! ;)

At the end of the day, F1 is all about who has the most money. Toyota have the biggest budget of all the teams so it's only a matter of time before they take the championship.

ISTR reading that toyota had a bigger budget than all the other teams combined last year. As Dino said though, they will do it.

Yeah, it's been speculated that they (Toyota) have the largest budget, but for a "newcomer", it's also common knowledge that money don't make all that much difference in getting you to the front. Look at Jaguar. When they bought Stewart Racing, they started going backwards!

Ferrari have a £300m budget, but they also get "subsidised" by ALL the other teams - hence all the arguments about the F1 Concorde agreement. Because Ferrari have been there from the start, they think that they're privileged enough to be paid off by the others. They've also been given a nice bung recently by Bernie to re-sign until 2012.

This fiasco about Ferrari hurrying up their 2005-spec car - regardless of budget, ONLY Ferrari could have done this. When a certain German driver starts moaning, it seems they pull out all stops. :?

All this aside, Toyota have done REAL well. Only a few weeks ago, the team were being put under pressure to perform otherwise their budget would have been pulled. Hopefully now they've guaranteed their future.

COME ON TOYOTA!!! :D

Yeah, good result.

Personally I think things will improve still further now that Mike Gascoyne has had a chance to settle in and design the cars from scratch...although I do think 2005 could be Renault's year!

Yeah, Gascoigne (AKA the Pitlane Pitbull) has certainly worked his magic on this year's car.

I think the Renaults are that little bit ahead, but I think the others will all gradually catch up slightly, and even though I too believe it could be Renault's year, this year's championship promises to build up to one helluva crescendo. :D

I keep hearing people say this and it seems a common opinion amongst the less informed press too. The sport isnt just about who wins, if that was the case we could easily shave 3 hours off the coverage and present the results over the news like the lottery results.

In reality ALL of the tops teams have enjoyed domination at some point or another, remember Senna with McLaren making the rest of the field look stupid? and who could forget Williams-Renault and their dominance? In a sport like F1 its just the way things work out, usually one team is miles ahead and the others are playing catchup.

"Seems to be getting a little better" - To be brutally honest this season is shaping up to be absolutely fantastic, todays race was one of the best i have seen in years. If you class this as "a little better" what exactly do you thing is good? - Gotta love Pedro's determination, even given his lack of recent race experience! and Alonso is shaping up to be a real world champion in the making. However, once Renault enjoy a couple of competitive seasons the same poeple will be complaining about how F1 is boring again - doesent make any sense to me.

What will it take for people to realise that F1 is just the same as its always been - if you look through the archives people were whinging about some team or anothers dominance right back as far as the first few post war races.

Just enjoy the sport for what it is, before Bernie and Ferrari ruin it and its lost forever. I cant see how F1 can retain its dominance as the most watched motorsport once A1GP gets established which is a real shame.

Bring back the old Quali format!!

Personal opinion mate, something everyone has the right to have.

but im not swaying, it WAS dull and even some of the pundits were saying there needed to be changes because the sport was losing its popularity. who wants to see the same person win all the time, and to know he'd win the next year again too. (schumacher)

and so it is then getting slightly better. would now like to see some british guys winning. =D>

Agreed, some british guys at the front would be nice. Maybe by the time Jenson is allowed to move to Williams they will have figured out how to build a race car again and give him half a chance!

I agree that this is looking like Renaults year.

It would be nice to see Toyota at the top, but I think they are at about the same place BAR were last year, so expect a lot of podiums, but I'm not sure about wins yet.

Don't count McLaren or Williams out yet. As said before, Pedro DLR was flying on Sunday, (and do I recall got the fastest lap?) which proves the car has good speed, but the drivers need to keep it on the track for a few weekends in a row before they'll get to the top step. The Williams seemed about on a par with BAR for speed, but they are both struggling with the aero and downforce under the new regulations. There's testing next week in Spain, so expect a whole new set of bodywork for both cars. Who knows where this will put them.

Well done Toyota. Keep getting the podiums this year (aim for race wins) and another year or two for a serious championship fight?
