Not the first motor show I have attended but first one with an eye on only one stand (or should that be the '2' stand!!).

Great to put some names to faces and hope to get involved next time! all participant looked and sounded like they were having a great time and shows the commitments of those involved and just how good the club is......

Well done to all........

Fantastic day, was one of the best weekends I have had in a long time, thoroughly enjoyed myself.

Kirsty - well done on the organising, all went smooth and well in the end. You also make a good cup of tea.

Love the photos up already, though all you can see of me in most of them is my boots! Think I spent more time under Kaiowas' car then I did anywhere else.

Well done to all involved, we had the best stand by far, there were other stands with more going on in terms of appearance but they weren't actually doing any work to the cars!

We had the best combination of information and work going on. Spoke to several people and they were all really happy and think that the people I spoke to appreciated the input we all gave to them.

Good day.

Job's a goodun.

I had a fantastic weekend - many thanks guys! Especially Kirsty for arranging it all - you did a great job! And thanks also to Anna and Alex for Saturday evening!
Really was a great day today at the show. I learnt quite a bit about how much you have to swear at the rear calipers to get them to work so I know what to expect when I sort out mine now! I too had a good look at Kaiowas' car although I didn't spend as much time under it as Malcolm, who was clearly having a kip every once in a while! :)

Really, quality weekend. Nice to finally meet so many people who I've PM'd or been on the phone to but never actually met!

Really miss my MR2 even more now! Can't help but feel we were robbed of any awards - I had a quick walk around the others and at the very least we should've been top three. Still - there's always next time! ;)

Right, back to work I guess. Completely knackered, but big meeting tomorrow and didn't exactly have much other time this weekend to do the work!!!

Oh: if you guys have a whole bunch of photos you want to upload, PM me. I can host them on my webserver either as a zip file of all the photos or linked individually from the forum as JPEGs. Definitely gotta see the photos Kirsty got from Saturday night!

Nice pics everyone, I was planning to take loads on the phone but never got round to it. #-o

Big thanks to Kirsty for organising the stand, I had a good laugh and it was great to meet some new people. :thumleft:

Making good use of a 4AGE dizzy cap  :

Oh and Steve as we couldn't start the car on the stand, you'll need to top the oil up a tad, the oil filter will have taken some up.

Well done everyone - particularly Kirsty for the organisation. It was really great to see a very active group of members all working hard on the stand together. Good to be able to put names to faces and meet some for the first time. We should have won a special prize for we were, by far, the most active stand at the show. A special thanks to Chris who managed to hire the Uni Van and collect and deliver the club items stored in my garage.
A real credit to the spirit existing in our club!

The stand was usperb, a few alterations to it for Autumn and I reckon we can win best in show.

Not critisisms but observations:

1. We had a lot of our unused / personal stuff along the back of the the stand, so people had to negotiate them to look at the boards.

2. The MK1 Club floor banner - created a bit of a barrier at the front of the stand between the two cars.

3. The number of people and toolkits - looked messy and was quite lethal to negotiate, didn't help to bring people in.

4. Needed boards detailing what is being done to the cars - spoon feed the information to the judges.

Now the uplifting part:

The engine on the stand - excellent idea, got talking with many people because of that engine, it drew lots of attention in a good way.

The energy on our stand - unstoppable. I blinked and the bumper had reappeared on Phil's car along with the headlights.

If the judges had even bothered to come to our stand they would have seena bunch of happy, dirty people having the time of their lives, our stand was by far one of the friendliest and relaxed stands there.

We were one of the very few stands actually doing work, not showing off finished cars and photos of finished projects: Karl's exuberance with the angle grinder is testament to what we were undertaking.

Speaking of which, have to put out a massive thanks to Colin from the Triumph Dolomite Club who kindly provided us with an angle grinder :thumleft:

Overall I think we had the best stand for information, projects being undertaken and sheer fun! Roll on the autumn show!

I agree with Malcolm - his observations are spot on. I was worried about the bits that were being left around (e.g. the old bumper bar) which were trip hazards. I hate the H&S brigade as much as the next person, but we have to make the stand inviting - making it difficult to navigate around the stand (and possibly dangerous) isn't going to help. There were a lot of onlookers as well, I noticed, who didn't come onto the stand but stood on the other side of the club banner (as though it was a barrier) and watched us...

I was shocked at how quick some of the work was done though - outstanding! If it weren't for that damned plug thing we had the problem with on the rear brake calipers, we'd probaby have gotten more done too... And of course the circular spring thing...

Speaking of the angle grinder - the people on the stand next to ours... hehe... not the happiest bunch, eh? (they didn't say anything - but I reckon they were close to it based on the expressions on their faces) Not our fault we were actually working!

I think for the next show we should try and get a slightly larger stand and if possible have only one car being worked on.

I'd like to do a before and after type display. So have a complete dog that a member has just bought and not started yet, one under restoration which we work on on the day, and one that's fully restored and mint.

This would allow the public to have a nose around the two we aren't working on and hopefully see the difference between a good and bad example of the same thing that we're doing on the day.

vix and I have a long list of bits and pieces we want to look at for next time, similar to what you've posted Mal :D

Don't take it as critisism Kirsty, if we had a bigger stand we would have had a lot more room, as it was we were kinda shoved in to a tiny space. Think the organisation you did was phenomenal and the stand worked really well, I do not know anyone who did not have a great day and everyone I spoke to in terms of the public etc were really friendly and positive.

I still think 2 cars is right, either that or have a dog and a minter a sort of before and after with the dog being worked on.

Max: next door weren't too happy but then again, we outnumbered and Karl was still holding an angle grinder. Think the owner decided the best part of valour was running away
