The post oct/now 1993 (rev 3 MR2) has the same engine as what is found in the ST205 celica GT4.

The 1991-1993 MR2 turbo has the same engine as whats in the equivilent generation celica GT4
Small turbos - they're not big and they're not clever!

Just say NO to small turbos!

not exactly the same apparantly the gt4 has diff part number for:
turbo charger
engine ECU (obviously, although the connector pin-out is almost identical. Probably the same PCB programmed with different software and with perhaps some components left unpopulated).
complete engine assembly (ST205 is 19000-88508, MR2 is 19000-88509)
head sub assembly
short block assembly
intercooler (obviously!)

The difference in the ECU is to allow for the chargecooler on the GT4., other than that they are identical. A Celica ECU will run an MR2, but will only work in safe mode unless something is done to trick it into thinking there's a chargecooler!

Why did Toyota never fit a chargecooler to the MR2? :-s

The engines are basically the same, the differences are usually due to steel type turbines fitted to the CT-26's - UK spec ones, theres EGR valves clagged onto the intake, the ecu runs a different program ( less agressive ignition ) due to the fuel differences - cam covers are difference between different revs .. kinda hard to keep up with all the differences, but as far as the hard core block goes, its the same unit - barr the ancillaries.... which either has been fitted to suit the car ( engine position ) or suit the ancillaries that surround it.
