Alternative engine lubrication options …

Post by Bender Unit »

Just wondering if it would be possible to use an alternative oil for lubrication purposes on a car. Perferably an oil that comes from a natural source - like vegatable oil or sunflower oil etc. I really don’t know if anyone has done this and I don’t know if it would work but just wanted to know others views, bar lubrication what other factors should the oil have (cooling properties, certain viscosity?) I was just reading something that got me thinking about having a car that would run on natural oil sources and also be lubricated by natural oil sources.

I know running a car on vegatable oil is a no no in the eyes of the government as they don’t get any tax (my ar$e they want to reduce emisiions!) so I wont go into that as the technology to do this is all tried and tested.

Can I also ask if anyone knows of a Toyota diesel engine that would fit into an MR2?

Regards

Yup just got back from hugging some trees and thought why not. Seriously I would just be intrested in giving it a go, it would be interesting to see if it could be done just a little sideline project, do it on a disposible engine and who cares if it dies in a clattery mess. I know that it can be used for fuel but I was wondring if it was possible to lubricate it with vegatable oil or similar, other than it hasnt (to my knowledge) been done before is that any reason why it couldnt be?

lol @ Steve :D

I think it would defo work as long as you do it on your car and p*ss in the fuel tank first.
