wtf! Wheels stuck to hub :(

Right, strange problem.

Jacked the car up, has been about 3 months since i last had the wheels off. Removed wheel nuts (yes all of them!), but the wheel was stuck firmly to the hub, wouldnt budge, and I didn't want to go mental and pull too hard in case the jack tipped over. Am buying axle stands today so I can have another go - is this a common problem, and would some wd40 help? Didnt want to spray it too near the brake discs...

edit: I should add this is the same on each wheel.

Had a feeling that might be the solution. Sounds fun, but didn't want to do it with just the jack holding the car up, knowing my luck it would land on my foot :)

Its probalby cause of all the salt and stuff on the roads lately. At the end of the day all you can do is kick crap out of it, or get a big plank of wood and beat it off.

Had to do this at the roadside recently it wasn't pleasant to say the least as the jack didn't look to promising!

There is a 'nasty' way of freeing them up. not one I would ever recommend, ahem.

this assumes you are in a car park or garage compound etc. Don't do this on the road.

Put the nuts back on, but not tight. Get upto 10 MPH or so and stand on the brakes. The shock should move the wheel/break the seal of rust.

Had to do this on a Sierra I broke for parts once.

That reminds me, driving to work the other week I saw someone had tried to jack a car up on the grassy verge beside the road, and the jack had obviously slipped in the mud, with the result that the car was now stuck in the mud with only 3 wheels on it, had to stifle a laugh as I drove past :D

When u actually get the wheels off, a good tip would be to sand the edge of the alloy that meets the hub very slightly, this will prevent future problems.

If the wheels are stuck to the hub, just kick them till they free off. This works for all but the most stubborn wheels.

Have to say in all my years of car owning I have never encountered this problem.
maybe I got lucky.
spray some wd-40 on the bolts/holes....just a bit...leave it for 5 mins and a hefty kick.
Good luck mate.

For the most stubborn of wheels, Axle stand, Block of wood and mallet from behind - that always works :)
