Post by turbostu »

Hello am new to the site and found it interesting, just want to know how do i know which revision i have? its an early 92 model with 15 inch wheels. Are there any major differences in the engine too?

Cheers

The Rev 2s came with 15" wheels (I'm assuming that your alloys are the standard Toyota ones), so unless the previous owner swapped them over, your MR2 is a Rev 2.

I don't think there were any changes to the engine for the Rev 2; the main difference was the improvements to the suspension layout.
Mk2 NA Rev1 -*- Mk2 Turbo Rev2 -*- Mk1 NA -*- Mk2 Turbo Rev 3 = all gone!

Hi,

One noticable difference to a rev1/2 is that the rev2 has 2 pipes coming off of the throttle body and the rev1 only has one!

A rev1 has 7 studs on the exhaust manifold too, rev2 has 9 I think.

Cheers,

Paul.

I'd recommend Westfield Motors - they're in Essex through, near Southend. They did a lot of work to my Rev2 including a top end rebuild.

Front Spoiler Lip on the Rev2 sticks out by about 2 inches whereas the rev1 doesn't. Also theres a split in the centre of the lip on Rev 1's.

and the throttle body pipe is same diameter along its length on the rev2 whereas its narrower and tapered on rev1.

Also rev2s ride height is lower as stock and i believe the rear track is wider. Also think the antiroll bars are thicker. Gear shifter is also shorter on rev2s and shorter throw than rev1.

I thought the Rev1 had the better suspension and they down graded it for the general public who couldnt handle the car properly!

I thought that rev1's were faster round the track but the geometry was altered to make the car more user friendly i.e. easier to recover from a tail slide.
To sum up a rev1 is quicker with an experienced driver.

Hmmm...interesting...its the first rev1 I've had and I only drove it for 30 miles or so before the dismantling started! I didnt think much of the handling though.

so you think it's good? OK, you take me out in your motor then! before I change the setup of mine?
