[Mk2] [NA] mongoose is it just me

Post by nitric4k »

ok i finally get around to fitting my mongoose today after months of it been in the shed.

anyways is it me or is it really really quiet??

i know my old custom one was one of the loudest na exhasts people had ever heard but the goose just seems so tame :(

and it decatted too

how can i beef it up abit? straight pipe where the decat is? as i noticed inside the decat there is still some small silencing materials

Quiet? really?
It might not sound that loud from the drivers seat, but i had someone drive my 2 past me, and was supprised how loud it was @ 3-6k rpm, is your exhaust/decat new? if so mine was a bit raspy to start off with, but seems to have a bit more bass now :-k

Agreed that it is very tame at tickover tho

mongooses are a bit of a let down in the noise dept, turbo and NA but i think the preformance gains are one of the best, all depends what u want

get a NUR make a conversion pipe and enjoy ;)

slightly ot... but my tubby has an electirla drain - suspect alternator :? , but that means it constantly needs jumpstarted.

so the other day i jumped it wth her landy, the two were side by side and even with mongoose on, the tubby is quieter at tickover than her landy  i couldnt here the tubby over the top of her freelander diesel  till i gave it a little blip

8) then the goose sounded very well done 8)

Put one on rev5 and it sounds pants also willn't sit in the middle of the car (it's about 1" over to the n/s) Had one on the old 2 and it sounded great!

Mongoose turbo ------ boring to look at, boring to listen to, good performance gain.

End of. :D

To make them loud(er) you need a stainless decat elbow. I have one on a Blitz de-cat pipe which is cast and it sounds meaty, delivers the power but isn't "loud". I like it.

All the power, less of the tinitus.

In all fairness rob you dont want it to loud, the na's arent exactly flying machines so you dont want an overly loud exhaust so everyone can hear how hard your pushing your car.

Luthor1, rob has an n/a he already has a decat pipe, but not a blitz one

oops - yes of course - you are N/A.

Spittin' is right - Mongoose is perfect with decat. Don't make a slow car sound fast (no offense)

might be a bit off track here folks, but don't agree with the statement in the last post, "don't make a slow car, sound fast"while na's might not be in the same league of speed, as far as turbo's go their are plenty of na owners who still like to modify their car,be it looks or for that little bit of personal preference.i must admit that in the time i have been involved on this forum, going to shows, and meetings i have not come across any form of eliteism(spelling)from any other mr2 owners.i might be wrong but i think rob is just after a sporty sounding exhaust.on the down side are all us na owners knackered anyway,as they look like "fast cars" rant over.paul. #-o

Dude, you've missed my point entirely.

I wouldn't put a NUR Spec-R on a stock Rev1 for the same reason. It's not where you are in the league, it's how it sounds -vs- how it goes.

I have a Mongoose on my Turbo (260bhp-ish) and it's a good sound without being loud.

If I had 400bhp I would go for the NUR spec as the noise would match the car.

'Slow' is relative, and a noisy-as-hell MR2 turbo making 260 is slow compared with a well-silenced 450bhp supra TT.

I meant no offense! It's all relative. I like the Mongoose, and I am endorcing it, simply because the subtle noise is both good quality and in the spirit of the car.
