[Mk2] [NA] What is this for?

Post by __Nick__ »

I've just been fitting my induction kit today, and am basically wondering what function the "box" attatched to this pipe is......

Anyone able to help? Is it necessary? It looks like its just taking air away from the filter. Any help welcome. Am putting it all back together now!

Resonator box. Get rid of everything plastic from that corner. Just have your cone filter on the intake pipe.

would that not leave a hole for air to escape to?

Should i block it or jus leave it as a tube?

edit: you mean nothing at all? or do i just attatch the bit my foot is on?

You should have a pipe coming from the throttle body. put the filter on that. Ditch everything else.

And i'm back again, if i'm ditching everything else....what do i do with this hole? The one smack bang in the middle of the photo.

(being paranoid, but really dont wanna have to take it all apart again!

hmm... just realised you have a rev3. hmm... I would suggest a bung of some kind. But in the interim it is probs best to put the resonator back on that hole.

Your 1st pic, is an 'air retainer box'. It can be ditched. On the stock setup it's a container of cold air that feeds into the box that has the air filter. Not sure why Toyota didn't just have a tube from the air filter box to the side vent :-k

2nd pic, you've removed a resonator box. I've left mine on - until I can get a replacement for the stock air pipe. It can be bunged up, I had heard that the top off a Brylcreem tub fits. Whatever you use - make sure it can't fall off, or get sucked into the engine
