I think the supernail engine is best left in the supernail (or even, best finished, and put back into the supernail), standard SC (or with big pulley) would be easily quick enough.
Why make it sheddy anyway, no need to spend hours polishing it, but would be nice to have something which looks the business.

Thinking about it I have a damn good engine currently in my SC which might be making way this year at last...! Dynoed at 180bhp with larger pulley.

Right, one of these two following options is definitely going to happen:

1) I build a Locost and fund the whole thing myself
2) I build a Raw Striker sharing costs with 2 or three others.

I have now severed all links (following a major argument with my Dad) with the Elise.

So I need to know, who is seriously interested in sharing costs in a Striker?

You will need to be able to cover the costs should you write the whole thing off. I will need some evidence of this....

So you've just finished it, have you managed to get it to a trackday yet?

Its not quite finished Needs a few bits and pieces (handbrake mainly now) before I can SVA it and get it registered. I don't have a tow car or space for one so I need it road legal before I can track it. It'd be nice to know I haven't done something really stupid and dangerous before I take it on track too

The only bit I don't really understand is why I need to use an Omex 600. I am absolutely clueless when it comes to ECUs. Why can't I use the 4AGZE unit?

As said the wiring would be a nightmare and I think the ECU will throw a strop if various bits of the car aren't there that it thinks should be.

I'd have to agree with Shish above too - do you really have the money along with setting up your business? or are you getting money back from the elise? (how's the car sales going?)

On reflection (and after calming down a bit) I think you and Shish are right. It is simply a knee jerk reaction to having a major falling out with my Dad regarding the Elise. He seems to be spending money on it like it is going out of fashion....and we share costs three ways on it (my Dad, me and my brother). The new brakes (after I managed to xxxx up the old brakes which are unwarpable apparently, errrr they're not actuallly I managed to warp them good and proper ) cost £800 , the new exhaust system was nearly £900!

But having said which I still want to build a 4AGZE Striker. I will keep my appointment with Raw Engineering and go and see what they are about.

It may end up that if enough people are interested in it I will build it on commission (and I won't have a personal share in it)

.... I dunno. All my close friends and my family think I am mad even considering this.

I really want to do it though.

I will still go and visit Raw and see what they are about. And I'm not wasting their time - I have already told them I won't be ordering anything until at least 1st April. I need to get both the Italinails fixed and sold before I can free up my garage.

I've had some more general thoughts about it though (should it go ahead):

1) A separate personal bank account will be set up by me (only accessible by me) to deal with the whole project. Statements will be sent out quarterly to the other three involved (or on demand if wanted)

2) The car and trailer will most likely be stored in a secure lock up in Leek, Staffordshire. We will not be buying a tow car so it is up to the other three to get tow hitches fitted to their daily driver. Along with car and trailer there will be a number of spares stored at the lockup: These will include (amongst other things) a set of wheels fitted with rain tyres, a jack, a wheel brace, a spare set of discs, a spare set of pads, some brake fluid, an Easibleed kit, a tyre pressure gauge, etc etc

3) The car will be fitted with an electronic tell-tale. This will only be accessible by me. This will be reset after each trackday. There will be a rev limit set at 7,400rpm on the Omex 600 (which is what it is set on the Toyota 4AGZE - 200rpm less than the NA). Anyone exceeding 7,500rpm (i.e buzzing the engine on downshifts) will be liable for engine rebuild costs should the engine fail during the next 100 trackday miles in the car.

4) Should the engine fail through no fault of the user, the costs will be shared between the four. But the engine must be rebuilt by only a trusted 4AGZE expert. More about that later should the project actually go ahead....

5) At the end of each trackday the user must enter the mileage in the log record, together with details on the tread left on each tyre and the brake pad thickness left on each corner

6) blah blah blah

Right, have I said enough to put everyone off by now !

Your other option is to find an older or part built Striker cheap and buy that Older cars are likely to be live axle, but a lot of people really rate them as track cars. IRS is definitely better on the road though.

Old xflow powered cars tend to go for not a lot of money and part builts sometimes crop up at really silly prices.

If you get something that's already a runner, you can use it as it is while you plan and get the bits together for the 4AGZE conversion too.

Of course really cheap examples are likely to be cheap for a reason, but even if you have to take it apart and put it back together again its still likely to be a bargain.

Well I went to look at a Mk1 today, this one:



And by some weird coincidence the rest of the showroom was filled with Raw Strikers!

And here's an even weirder coincidence it looks like they are looking to see if the GZE engine will fit. Just look, I found an SC12 Supercharger lying by the side of his new car!



And he was taking measurements to see if it would fit!
