Shed.

Stryker is the only option i'd consider if i couldn't afford a caterham.

It would be a quick shed,

I would go as far to call it a summer house, as it would have benefits.

Yeah, I know. From memory, they all use 1300cc CVH engines, and spend all day slipstreaming each other. TAANOTHO!!

Right, I've been reading through this book, it looks absolutely ace! :D

And I've been waffling on the phone to Martin at Raw Engineering (the designer).

I'm going to go down next week and they said they'll take me for a spin in the demonstrator (20v 4AGE powered 8) )

They also have a 4AGTE powered one in their workshop. It's finished and waiting for the customer to collect. I wonder if they would be prepared to take me out in that as well..... :-k

Tom

www.locostbuilders.co.uk and before the shouts of SHED are heard they cover all the non-cateringvan makes. Robin Hood , Tiger Avon, MK Indy, Raw Stryker & Locost.

The sheddiness of a Locost is purely up to the builder IMO, there are a lot of parts that can be bought prefab so you don't have to weld up your own wishbones etc. There's a pro welder, local to my folks who makes up chassis for Locosts.

The £250 is absolute balls though, unless you're up for some serious skip raiding! Plus there are a couple of errors on the chassis measurements in the book. #-o

Good stuff T :D , you know it makes sense (as Delboy once said)

Martin (the guy at Raw Engineering) sounds rather keen about fitting a GZE into a Striker. :thumleft: It turns out thaey haven't done one before. They have put a GZE into a Phoenix though.....

He reckons the only problem would be the steering column. Well that can't be rocket science to redesign it!

When he first told me about this I said "doesn't matter then, I'll take the SC off and put a turbo on instead". Well he wasn't impressed with that idea at all, I think he's a supercharger convert (just as I am).

The demo car I'll be going out in is a 155hp 20v 4AGE. Apparently it goes like a rocket. It weighs in (with all fluids) at 525kgs.

So just imagine how quick a 180hp 4AGZE will go....

Tom - that's quite a plan. If you want a track-only car, then doing something like that is seriously :thumleft:

One of the guys at work I work with built one with a R1 engine in it - 160bhp and built weight of around 460kgs - and I got a passenger ride with him on a damp winter morning ... and it wasn't slow :D

I think you'd fit... says in the blurb that it can accomodate 6ft 6"... though doesn't actually say that someone this tall would be able to drive it as well.

You'd make a good passenger. :thumright:

Tim,

If I do go for the locost option it won't look like this shed:

Image

It will look more like this shed (or even worse  )

Image

I will try and make sure it looks at xxxx as possible, but make sure it goes like a rocket!

(I really do hate trackday snobs, so I'd really try and make it look as scruffy as possible, whilst spending all the money time and effort making sure it is faster than their mega expensive track nail)

In fact you may be able to help me out. If I lend it to you first time out, you can wallop into the tyre barriers and make damn sure it looks like a NOTHO!

Tom, in the best Blue Peter tradition - to save you the time and trouble I've got just the car for you ...

Ok I'm plainly biased, but the Striker is a cracking car and Martin and Mel are top people too (oh and if Eddie's there, he's just a nutcase!). I drove their old 20v 4AGE demo car at Llandow before I ordered mine, you won't be disappointed! ;)

If you're looking at alternatives, the MNR Vortx looks very good (was just a bit too new for me when I was starting mine) and the new round tube MK chassis is supposed to be good too, but I don't know anything about that. If you're definitely going for 4AGZE power then the Striker probably makes most sense though as RAW have been sticking the N/A versions in various cars for ages. I know of someone trying to supercharge a 20v in one too, which could be interesting (right up until it goes bang probably).

As for the locost, I'll just say the chassis design isn't known for being that great and leave it at that I think...

David, just read your build diary, very interesting indeed.

So you've just finished it, have you managed to get it to a trackday yet?

Flat Pack wrote:and Martin and Mel are top people too

Yes they are. I had a good long chat with Mel on Wednesday and then another long chat with Martin (on more detailed aspects) on Thursday. In fact the conversation was going on so long I told him I'd put the phone down and put all my questions in an email. But he said no and allowed me to keep waffling!

The only bit I don't really understand is why I need to use an Omex 600. I am absolutely clueless when it comes to ECUs. Why can't I use the 4AGZE unit?

He doesn't have a map for a big pulleyed GZE so I'll have to get it setup professionally. Actually I am sure Jeremy (JMR_AW11) could help and I could of course rob the map from Anna and Alex's Supernail as a base point (they also run an Omex 600).

Presumably because they don't want the rats nest loom which goes with it, most of which would become redundant with certain bits of the car missing (i.e. just the engine).

You certainly could, bear in mind that ours (should) have different cams and injectors from a standard '92, but should still be pretty close (and a CC).

I presume there would be a front mounted Intercooler?

We could play with the engine a bit. :)

If you fancy rebuilding an engine Tom I do have a donor supercharger with all the parts on...suspected shells in engine.
