I've never really liked those things cos they spoil the lines of the car which are timeless. If it does provide some real benefit for the engine and performance, then keep it, but surely all the drag it causes negates all of that... I dunno....

I'm not a fan from a looks point of view Raymond Pang run a lot of tests on these some time back. He came up with proof to suggest that these do infact offer a negative effect on the air flow within the engine bay!

I don't like the styling of them to be honest... i prefer the sleeper look rather than fancy bodykits - I'm now investing all my dosh under the hood (I've got to stop watching American tv programmes! haha)

also as i understand the airflow they create actually goes against the design that Toyota ... well.. designed

the air flow is taken up from underneath and is ejected through the grills - if you put a scoop on that then forces air "down" into the engine bay as I've heard it mucks up the preferred direction of the air..

Not sure if this actually is proved but just typing what I've heard mentioned before.

they are supposed to be for n/a's and have a bottom box section to house an airfilter. Never designed to simply direct air into the open engine bay.

Not keen on scoops to be honest. I would remove it but hey, that's just me.

The car certainly look loads smoother without.

i went through the same dilemna when i bought mine, however, you have to agree that the scoop although ruins the smooth lines of the mr2.... it gets alot of attention.

i dont think i would put another toms scoop on an mr2 again.... bomex one, probably

IMO I think all those air scoopy things look like cack.... They don't ever look like they were meant to be part of the car, and they ruin the lines... And from what I can gather they don't do much. Its almost like a growth on the back of the car!!!

hmmm.... on a standard car i'd say bin it but on that one i think it looks good. especially from side on! they're not hard to remove anyway so why not take it off and see if you think it looks better that way?

Easy guys, they don't look thaaaaaaaaat bad.

Its all about the whole look. A veilside nosecone looks cack on a std car but teh whole kit done properly can still look sharp these days.

With no direct air feed to the air filter, then no, I would've thought they're detrimental to performance. But so are 18" rims, and people to that.

Would look very nice without the scoop IMO.
